A Bit Pricey, but UL rated
I installed the natural gas alarm from this company July 2012 and the unit expired September 2017. It was and still is one of the more expensive gas alarms, but it is UL rated which is important. Fortunately, it was not set off during the five-year period it was installed, but it would have been worth its weight in gold had it been set off. I have completely lost my sense of smell and would have never smelled the gas had there been a leak or a failure of our gas oven or gas burners in the kitchen. The directions stated that it should be located near the ceiling if the objective is to detect natural gas. My recollection is that propane is heavier than air (I may be wrong) so if I am right this unit might not be the best unit for both natural gas AND propane, but it is highly unlikely a home would have BOTH of the heating gases. If it is intended to detect propane it should be installed low in the house.--------------------------------------------This is a follow-up review to the review above. I received the new unit and it was absolutely identical to the one I had used earlier. I was correct; propane is heavier than air and this detector can be used to detect propane, but must be located in the lowest position in the home. I use mine to detect natural gas and it is located high in the kitchen near the gas burners and gas oven. Re-reading the instruction manual, it stated specifically that the unit is designed to last five years and after five years must be replaced. I think I inadvertently forgot to replace it after five years, but an alarm sounded reminding me that the unit had expired. It is very easy to install and even includes a simple bracket that is used when plugging it into a wall plug that prohibits it from being accidentally unplugged. I am very satisfied with my experience with this detector, but it took ages to be delivered. I waited and waited and finally decided it was never going to arrive and ordered another. Now I have two with the second on it's way...in a few weeks. I only need one so will send the other unopened back.

the instructions were clear, and it is a plug in
we liked this product 5 years ago, and apparently it was at life end for the appliance. So, we were lucky enough to find it again on Amazon. It is a plug in unit, and we have it installed in our laundry room, by the dryer.

Great value and great product
I had trouble finding a detector that fit the manufacture of my RV’s cut out. This fit perfectly

If you use LPG this is a necessity.

Missing parts and info
I haven’t tested the unit out yet, but just received it. After reading the mounting instructions it states to mount the transformer to a wall outlet and place the supplied “L” shape bracket over that. This bracket was not included in my package. Also the placement directions aren’t very clear where to place it.

Didn't work
We tried and tested this product and it was rendered useless. It never picked up any propane gas leakage even when we tested it next to our cook top where there is a now known leak. Sending back and requesting refund.
