The Caribbean Flamingo also kown as the American or Rosy variety is the only flamingo to naturally inhabit North America. Having the brightest plumage of all flamingo species, their colors may vary from pink to red to orange. Their large downward curving bill is pink and tipped in black. Measuring 47 to 55 inches tall and weighing between 4.5 and 9 pounds, males and females are the same colors with males being slightly larger. This species is found throughout Florida and the Caribbean as well as in teh Galapagos. Flamingos are very social birds with colonies numbering up to tens of thousands.
