The reading light has an on/off switch. The base is heavy enough to keep the lamp stable in normal use. The lamp shades are white plastic. They look ok and do their job. They fit in with my middle-class living room but might not be fancy enough for an expensive set of furniture. Overall, this is exactly the combination light that I needed.

**Q: What is the sizing on the plastic shades? I would like to replace them.  Lamp is great - shades are subpar.**
A: The design does not assume alterations. The reading arm does not hold the weight of regular glass shade. And even if you shorten the lever by partially fixing the arm to the main shaft, the lamp is very shaky with two glass shades. Use as manufactured or look for other options.

**Q: How many watts is the reading /small lightt**
A: It’s LED. It says 9 W. 60Hz. It is very bright, great for reading. It’s my reading light.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great Lamp

I bought 2 of these as a family Christmas gift to replace 2 similar lamps that stopped working after years of use. Even the lowest setting is plenty bright to light the living room, which has a vaulted ceiling. The reading light is a handy attachment as well. It moves around easily but keeps the position it was put in without drooping. The lamp is simple and straightforward to put together, and the base seems sturdy enough to hold it up without wobbling. Due to young grandkids though, both lamps are tucked into corners or under legs of furniture for extra stability. It's only been 1 day but the family is very pleased.
