It’s an awesome product but please read below
Yesterday this item showed up at 6pm, I put it out at 6:30PM, and I had my rat by 8:00pm. It’s a great product but please read below:1.) As some have noted, the edge where the door and cage meet is very sharp and WILL cut off the rat’s tail unless you do something about it. One poster put a bead of hot glue on the two edges. I folded over a piece of duct tape on the two edges. Either way, do something about it before placing the trap because my rat had 4” of tail hanging out. . I’m not taking off any stars because jeez, it’s $10.2.) The catch releases the door only when the bait is pulled towards the exit of the trap. It will never release if the rat pushes the bait forward. So, if the cage is very secluded the rat might feel OK sitting in the cage, pushing forward, and eating all of the bait. Also, something like peanut butter won’t make the rat pull the catch toward the exit. Place the trap at the base of a fence or where the rat will be running back and forth…this way they’ll want to take the bait somewhere else to eat it. We used a dog treat.3.) Some people say the rat can get out but it seems impossible on the trap I got. It closes very firmly. The picture shows one spring but mine has two so I think there’s been a design change.4.) After I caught the rat I placed the whole trap in a 5 gallon bucket which it fits perfectly in. This way no fleas can jump off into your car. I let the rat go in the woods a couple miles from the house. You open the cage and that thing runs away so fast you won’t believe it.

Works great, very strong
1) The wire is thick enough that the rat is NOT going to be able to chew through it.2) The bait hook works great with dried fruits. In the case of Las Vegas we have Norway and Roof Rats, and fruits work for them. Initially I tried peanut butter but you'd have to put something on the hook and then smear the peanut butter if you want to go that route.3) The spring is very strong. Of the 2 rats that I caught in 2 days, you can see where one got his nose smacked somehow because the hair came clean off. They are NOT getting out4) Setting the trap can be a bit tricky. There is not a lot of "play" between the rod and the bait hook loop. This is actually a good thing, but there were moments of frustration when I initially tried setting it up because I would accidently keep setting it off. Put it in the spot you want it first and THEN set the trap door.As mentioned, in 2 days I have caught 2 rats using dried apricots. These things work great. I have dogs and a 2 year old so unfortunately snap traps aren't an option nor is poison. This presents another fun problem....how to dispose of the rat once you caught it.Update -- 4 days, 5 rats. Salted pork and dried apricots.

Works very well if you use it correctly
I live in a house in the Appalachian Mountains and we have an issue with field mice and rats in our cellar. I’ve purchased four different type of traps. This is the first time I used this spring loaded trap. I’ve used others that have a lever the mouse/rat steps on and closes the cage. The issue with that, if you accidentally trap a squirrel, they completely destroy the cage trying to get out as those cages have very thin wire. I had to throw away to cages. This cage is very thick metal that can’t be chewed through. I’ve read many reviews where people complain that these cages don’t work. I had the same experience but found a solution. Take a small piece of cardboard and put a big dab of peanut butter on it. Put it all the way back in the cage so the varmint will push the lever back getting to the food. Boy, does this work! The only issue I have is I wish the cage was a bit bigger as their tails keep getting caught in the trap door that comes down fast and hard. That’s why only four stars. If you buy this kind of trap, be sure to check it EVERY day so that the mouse/Rat doesn’t die in it. Another hint is to put cardboard under the cage so you don’t get a pile of. Mouse/rat poop as they get upset and go. This cage works if you use it right. Excellent product

Excellent for getting rid of rats.
This is an excellent trap if you have mice or in our case, rats. We bought a fixer upper and after living in the house for a few days discovered we had a rodent. We put out a sticky trap for mice and caught a very large rat. Luckily we were there because it likely would have gotten away. But after we caught this one we continued to hear noises and see remnants of another pest. We put out some mouse traps and the rodent ate the food but did not get caught. That's when I bought these. I bought three, and the day we put them in, I saw a rat on our front porch and it ran under something. It was huge. We caught that one around 2 am and two others in the following weeks. It turns out there is a plant across the highway from us and they are coming from that vicinity. Dog food plant!!! I highly recommend this product if you have a problem with rodents. Excellent! We haven't caught anything in the house in weeks, but have caught something outside in the cellar.

Works like a charm!
Very happy with this purchase. I spent a lot of time reading the reviews of the various traps available. The one that I wanted to buy was out of stock so I decided to purchase this one instead because I didn't want to wait. This year has been awful for rodents. We have a chicken coop out back and the rodents have been invading. The reviews on this trap were not as good as the other one that was out of stock so I was a bit hesitant but I figured for the price it was worth taking a chance. On the first night, I didn't choose a great location for placement and didn't catch anything. But the second night, I changed where I placed the trap and I used a small piece of dog biscuit as bait. I just laid it on the floor of the trap, didn't even bother baiting the hook, as I figured that a rat or mouse would bump into the hook anyway trying to get to the bait. It worked perfectly, a big rat was caught in the trap, completely unharmed. I didn't remember to check the trap for quite some time and the trap held the rat securely for hours. This trap is very sturdy and very high quality. It is easy to set up - the box has directions with pictures and it is simple to use.I definitely recommend this trap and was so satisfied with the purchase, that I just bought another one so that I can set 2 at one time and get rid of the rodents even faster.
