The resetter will work to reset your original Canon PGI220 / CLI221 chips back to new specifications! This device will reset the OEM Canon CLI221 and Canon PGI220 cartridge chips to "new" specs, allowing your printer to recognize the cartridge as new when you refill it. This resetter will yield thousands of successful resets, and is battery powered. Now you can finally refill the Canon CLI-221 and PGI-220 cartridges successfully, and reset the chips on the cartridges so the printer won't know the difference! The resetter is guaranteed to work on Original brand Canon CLI221 and Original brand Canon PGI220 cartridge chips, but may not work on "compatible chips" manufactured by 3rd parties. As long as you are refilling a genuine Canon CLI221 or PGI220 cartridge, this resetter is 100% guaranteed to bring your chips back to 100% new specifications. This resetter works with all Canon cartridges that are used in printers such as the Canon PIXMA iP3600, iP4600, iP4700, MP560, MP620, MP640, MP980, MP990, MX860, MX870, PMFP1, PMFP3, SFP1, SFP2, MP610, MX860 and others utilizing CLI221 / PGI220 ink cartridges with chips.

Looks different but works great
Great News: once you reset the tank, even if it's EMPTY, the printer thinks it is OK. This is VERY GOOD if you only rarely print in color ... you can just put in one full PGI220 fat black tank and leave the others empty but "reset". Why? If you don't, then EVEN IF you NEVER print color (just grayscale), the printer gradually WASTES the colored ink during its cycling ... when it runs out, the printer refuses to print even a pure black ink sheet ... and then ya gotta go buy more colored tanks even though you never used the ink! THIS DEVICE eliminates that ... the printer thinks that the reset empty colored tanks are full, and works fine for black and white. Instructions are super-simple (no battery needed):1. take it out of the package2. put insert in (for CLI221 skinny tanks - skip step for PGI220 fat black tank)3. slide in the tank and wait about one sec for red light to come on (hold for 3 sec or so to be sure)4. install tanks in printerOther notes: what I got looks different than the pic, but that's probably an older clunkier model ... mine's blue but without the big rectangular box shown on the left ... it's got a little slip-insert instead (see step 2)BTW: I also ordered the PrintPayLess kit with five full tanks plus all the refill ink ... DON'T make that mistake! I'm a very careful person that follows instructions. Even when doing so, the tanks dripped all over the place unless you hold them upside down ... AFTER you take off the yellow tape. I didn't even try to put them in the printer ... did not want any drips to gunk it up.

Works great, doesn't look like the picture
Just received it, tested it on an original PGI-220 and a CLI-221, reset both to full. Plugged them in, waited 5 seconds after the red light turned on, put them back in the printer, they show full now. I was kind of skeptical before purchasing, as the price was a lot lower than on other sites, even for the same product - then decided to take a chance. Well, it looks like a good call - if you need a PGI-220/CLI-221 chip resetter, this is the one to get. Otherwise, I was surprised to see that it doesn't look like presented in the picture, it's blue, but it looks like the red PGI-8/CLI-5 resetter sold by BisonTec.Also, despite the note at the bottom of the page, this resetter is battery-powered, so you don't need an USB cable to power it. Didn't find any obvious screws anywhere, there might be one under the label on the bottom of the unit, but I'll figure it out when (if?) I'll have to replace the battery. Until then, no need to worry about it.Great product, great price.EDIT:Six months later (and about 30-40 resets) it still runs great, no issues, still using the original batteries.EDIT2:Since this resetter is still available two years later, here's another update: still working, still on the original set of batteries, used it probably 100 or so times with no glitches.Found the screws, they're located under the label at the bottom, once you peel the label off you can see them.It uses three 1.5 volt batteries (type LR41 - equivalent to AG3 or 192), if you need to replace them.

Doesn't Work out of the package
I've had one of these before, worked fine until it didn't. Had to wait a month or so before using it, so past any warranty(if such a thing exists). It simply doesn't work; dead battery or failed chip who knows.

Great battery powered resetter
It does a great job of resetting the cartriges, and the price is great. As others have stated it would be really nice if the photo and description were totally accurate, and I took a star off for that. As of this review the description contradicts itself saying it uses batteries (true) and USB (false). The unit is blue and has two pieces to accomodate the different sized cartriges, but the seperate piece is in the center, not to the side as in the photo. If you just want something that is priced right and works well, it's a five star buy.

Worked right out of the box
I got this for my Canon Pixma MP990, and I give it 5 stars for working right out of the box and that it came with batteries included. This also gets 5 stars for fighting a corrupt industry that will outright lie to you about how much ink you have and then hold your printer hostage until you buy more. I was noticing my color tanks were mysteriously getting lower even though I was only printing in black and white so I knew this was the time to get one of these.Instructions were a little hard to read so it took a few seconds to figure out how to orient the cartridge and the CLI221 adapter (for the narrower color cartridges). Adapter is not needed for the black ink tank, so I give points to the design of this product that can handle both cartridge types. This item works really fast too, so fast you'd think you're doing something wrong and the light remains red instead of turning green like my old one, but it works. When I popped the ink back into the printer the tanks read full, though it did cause the printer to go into some kind of initialization sequence but only did it the first time.[Update: I found very tiny screws underneath the sticker on the bottom plate in order to replace the batteries. Be careful how you store the item - if the activate switch is pressed up against anything it will drain the batteries which are surprisingly expensive to replace. Now I keep it in its own container to prevent accidentally triggering the switch. Also it looks like the product's form factor has changed again but I'll bet it works the same. The manufacturers should really create a new part number every time it changes.]
