Lineage: A Supernatural Thriller

A slow burn
It was a slow start that didn't seem to be going anywhere supernatural at first but I stuck with it. There are definitely twists I didn't see coming. If you have the patience to see it through, to get to all the connections, it is a strange and fascinating story. I would read this author again.

Extremely Entertaining
Lance has had a pretty crappy childhood to say the least, but he's taken all that horror and pain and filtered it into writing books. When Lance has writer's block that won't go away, he begins to have nightmares again and visions of a strange house overlooking a lake. What a even more concerning is actually finding the actual house by the lake.As he gets accustomed to his new home he also has been freed from his writer's block. But what is the actual cost for this freedom and is this new story that seems to flow from his fingers really his story or is something else writing it?Enjoyed this very much from beginning to end.Lots of twists and turns as Lance uncovers some hidden truths about himself.Very well done and a solid story!!

Definitely a horror story!
Well done, but definitely has supernatural elements! Kept my interest nonetheless. Give it a try and let us know what you think.

DON'T FORGET TO BREATH
"No matter how promising or bright the future sometimes seemed to be, the past had its own way of holding onto people, at times letting out some slack for them to run, but always making sure they knew they were tethered."More than once while ending this book, there were times when I let out a breath that I did not know I was holding. The suspense builds like building blocks, starting with the prologue which was, I think, the longest prologue I ever read. It goes on to part 1 which was a bit hard for me to read; a grown man beating up a child is not something I care to witness. And part 2 and then the epilogue. Building blocks, one and all.I really love how Joe Hart uses his words:"A deep aura of sadness surrounding him, as if he had seen heaven and had been sent away.""Time is a funny thing. It slips away when you're not looking.""Lance could read the caretaker's face and pasture like a road map. Memory and sadness were John's real clothes, and Lance knew from wearing his own outfit of misery that that they were unyielding burdens that refused to be sloughed off, no matter how hard one tried."This is more then a ghost story. It's about the sins of a father and how those sins, and the ghost that linger, effect the children of the future. Lances father had plenty and his grandfather had more.I know I'm being vague, but I don't want to give too away (no one wants to know the end of the movie before watching it, right?). It's a complex story with complex characters which makes me think of King. If you like horror thrillers, you will enjoy this book. Believe me, you want be disappoint.

Surprises
I started reading this book and all of a sudden I could not put it down. Lineage is the best book I read in such a long time. When it gave me the first surprise I was overjoyed. This has not happened since early Stephen King. I love good ghost stories and this is the best. Twists and turns to the end. You will love it.

A complete stranger
I want to be very honest, I am a hard core horror fan and consider myself very jaded, when I read some of the reviews before purchasing this book and another reader suggested that they too were jaded when it comes to horror so based on this and other rave reviews I decided to purchase, therefore I was a little disappointed when the horror turned out to be mainly blood and Gore, although the first few pages indicated this I gave it a chance, looking forward to the supernatural parts. Because my thrill of horror is things that go bump in the night I was delighted to find Mr. Hart had covered this too. But much of it is pretty bloody. His descriptions are so real, you can literally see, smell, taste, hear and feel what he describes, so it was very much like watching a movie, however it was so well done, that the visuals gave me a sense of having seen it all before, which says a lot about Hart 's ability to write, but certain scenes lacked originality. A little too ambitious with trying to cover all genres of horror I'd say (plus romance??) which was very weak in contrast. The ending (hope this is not an spoiler) refutes the title of the book Lineage. However consider this a good review because my final analysis considers this a good read and I read every line. So bravo!! Once again you've entertained a complete stranger. ( which I think is a good title for a book) Maybe I'll write that one. I recommend.

The author is, to me, a genius
You know, I love this book so much I am not even sure where to start so that you get the full idea of what a great book this is, without my giving you spoilers. Whew!I have read many horror / thriller / ghost stories over my 65 years and none so far compare to this book. The horror is not bad enough to annoy those new to horror stories. The author has managed such depth of character for the main characters that I am in awe of his wonderful talent. As you read, you really KNOW what people like Lance (the main character) or John, just to pick two, are feeling and how they got to feel these things. The story starts with Lance as a child, and tells of the abuse and neglect he suffered by his parents, and eventual salvation by a kind sheriff who could 'see' things were not right. We next find Lance as an adult and author of many best sellers who is suffering a writers block and takes steps to break the block. From this point on, you will be riveted to your seat for the remainder of the book. I was up until 2:30 a.m. finishing this book. I just could NOT put it down. Despite some frightening events in the last 1/4 of the book, I was pleased with how it ended. Despite the suspence, chills, thrills, and touch of romance in this book, I also found it teaches strength of character. You finish the book with a nice feeling. You will not be sorry you bought this book. If you have work tomorrow though, start it as early as you can because, I promise you, you will be up until you finish it.

Lineage.
I've never read anything by this author before and if I'm being totally honest I had this when it was free on kindle. I really liked this, it's based around Lance, an author who had a desperately sad and violent upbringing, which we read about in the first part of the book, as an adult he experiences writers block and feels compelled to buy a house he believes has cured it. Without revealing too much what follows is a ghost story of epic proportions with some good old fashioned nail biting moments, unusually for this kind of book, I don't think the ending was "guessable" either, you'll have to read it to see if you agree ;-) I'm off I search for more of Joe Harts work!

Too long
I really like Joe Harts books this is the third I have read but not my favorite. It was a bit too long.Even though the little stories before the main story were really good the rest of the book didn't live up to what went before.I would still give this a read as Joe Hart is a very talented writer.Just be prepared to suspend belief towards the end!!

Too much cruelty.
Hard to read scenes of sadistic father first abusing his son in the real life, than as a pretty active ghost. I often find explicit descriptions of cruelty completely unnecessary for the story. We have enough of this stuff in news nowadays.

. Bloody hell !
Joe Hart is now as good as Paterson, Child and Cussler. This keeps you engrossed with many twists throughout..Gory at times but so in the narrative that it would be wrong not to h have it the end is terrific.

Excellent ghost story
Almost a three part story as it unfolds to show you the reasons for the ghosts and their relationship to the protagonist whom we follow from childhood to adult. Highly recommend. I will definitely read more from this author.
