1st unit was a dud, but replacement works great
I have a Cable Matters USB 3.0 SATA HDD/SSD Docking Station with 10TB+ drive support (Thunderbolt 3 & USB-C compatible) that doesn't work with linux. I bought this dock because it claims Windows, Mac AND linux support - all without drivers. The problem is, it doesn't work on any of these operating systems. A 2TB disk formated FAT32 is recognized instantly by Windows 10 when in the Cable Matters dock, but moving the same drive to the Salcar dock gives me nothing. Windows is not even recognizing the device. Same thing for exFAT, and same situation for linux. The one I received is really just a hard drive holder with a cable on it. I will certainly be returning it. Maybe I received a dud - there are a lot of positive reviews here - but QA needs to know that it's failing.I can't give more than 1 star for a product that doesn't do anything it's supposed to do (besides hold 2 hard drives and I can do that with a few Lego blocks).[UPDATE]The company contacted me after I had returned the item, and offered to send me another if I would try it again. The new dock arrived, and it works flawlessly. I've used it in Windows 10, Linux, MacOS... I even hung it off my QNAP NAS and it was recognized and both drives were available inside QTS. This is exactly what I originally purchased the unit for... a device that I could hang off every machine in my home!Clearly the 1st device I received was a dud, as it could not be recognized by any of my machines (Win10, Linux, MacOS), so I'm holding off 1 star for QA failings. That said, customer service is clearly proactive and I would purchase from this company again.

Cloned my 500MB MBP HDD to SSD effortlessly
I was originally set out for a dumb dual bay adapter so I would use software to clone my 500MB MBP HDD to SSD. I didn't know that there were low cost offline duplicator exist until I saw that there were numerous such products for sale in Amazon. This one is one of the lowest cost I could find anywhere.I tested it on my Windows 10 machine. No driver was needed so I was able to use it immediately. I didn't use any tool to make any throughput measurements, but it felt reasonably fast using my USB 3.0 hub. Finally, back to the real reason I needed this device. I cloned my 500MB HDD to a new 512MB SSD last night. The process took about an hour and it was absolutely no thrill and completely offline. I installed the newly cloned SSD in the machine and it started up immediately like it normally does everyday -- except that it is starting much faster now! My MBP is much more responsive now!If you need to clone your disks or just want to add extra hard drive bays, and you are still contemplating, don't! Just buy this thing! This thing has proven that it is a good product!

Well worth the price, great value and performance.
Absolutely awesome, saved my data while on vacation! Recently was on vacation and my personal laptop started giving the blue screen of death. The HDD was going bad, and I wasn't sure if I would be able to boot the computer again. Ordered a replacement drive and this dock which also operates as a standalone cloning station. Put the dying drive in bay 1, the replacement drive in bay 2, and pressed the copy button. About an hour later, the status showed 100% complete. I installed the replacement clone drive into my laptop and booted it up. The clone process was so exact, that the first boot on the new drive was a memory dump and restart from the original drive's BSOD error! After the reboot, laptop booted perfectly and has been running great ever since. After that I cloned a failing SATA hard drive to a solid state hybrid drive. The cloning process worked perfectly again, and that laptop now runs cooler and quieter. It was my first try at replacing a SATA HDD with a SSHD, I was surprised that it was so easy with this dock/cloner. Well worth the price, saved my data and much frustration.

A GREAT deal.
This is my 3rd cloning station I have used in last 5 years and the best of the 3. The 1st one lasted 4 years of heavy use but was only USB2. 2nd was USB3 ran much faster but quality of the sation was not quit as good as the 1st one but a power surge burned it the HDD in it and the computer Saw this on Amazon for 25 bucks thought I would give it a try. Didn't expect much at this price, but was really surprised, this is better built then the the other 2 and off line copying is fast. I use 4 operating systems and a 2 TB HDD with 1200 movies on it and keep a backup drive for all of them. Takes about 15 minutes to copy a drive with windows and all the software I use and about 5 hours to copy the 2 TB drive off line.I am trying a linux OS and it works with linux, but haven't found software to clone a drive on line.Don't know why you would tie up your computer when it is so easy to clone a drive off line. This Is a great deal.

Needed to Clone Some Hard Drives but Finding Other Uses for it Weekly
Using this to clone off two identical drives worked well for me. The usb 3.0 cable I could never get to work but using a standard 2.0 cable brought this thing to life. May be just my computers not having 3.0 support or a bad 3.0 cable may have come with it, don't rightly know. I do know both Windows and Linux Mint picks up the device as a usb hard drive letting you use it as you want. Needing to install Windows 10 on a CDDVD-less computer I was able to set up a NTFS partition on a old SATA laptop drive laying around, drag and drop Windows 10 DVD install files onto it, and from Linux Mint's disk utility set the drive's partition to boot. Plugging it into the CDDVD-less computer it was a simple matter to boot to usb from keyed start-up and install Windows 10 in a very rapid manner. Very handy indeed, I'm finding more uses for it weekly.

Works but super slow in cloning
Received this today... It will read hard drive and you can access them from WIndows OS.. The cloning feature well lets say it works but not the fastest thing in the world in cloning. I was cloning 1TB drive to 2TB and since it does sector to sector clone it takes forever. Example I can use 3rd party software and create image of this 1TB drive and apply the image to the 2TB drive in one hour. So far it has been 1 hour and it is only 25% done. This would be great for home user but for someone like me with 17 years in Information Technology no.4 out of 5 starsPro'sworks greatwindows can mount drives in HDD1 sloteasy setupCon'sSlow

Good look, good speed, tricky to use
It's probably the best looking USB3 drive on Amazon, especially if you are buying for a Mac, since the aluminum material matches that of Mac computer very well. Very easy to understand and start to use. Very good USB 3 speed. The built-in disk to disk copy function seems rather useful. My only complaint is the mounting action. I have another USB2 double hdd dock. Very similar design but that one's slot can guide the insertion of the 3.5 HDD very smoothly and accurately. While for this dock, the slot is wider than a 3.5HDD, that leaves a lot of wiggle room during insertion, and it is hard to actually find the right spot to insert the drive. After you find and inserted the drive, you can feel that the drive doesn't sit there snuggly, which is somewhat worrisome. Also, there is no lever mechanism to eject the drive, so you have to just pull the drive up.

Works as expected
This bay is fast and reliable, it came with a user manual, a power adapter and a high quality USB cable to get full USB 3.0 speed when accessing the drives from the computer. It can clone hard drives offline as well. All you need to do is plug the power supply, place the drives, turn it on and press the copy button. You might find that it takes a long time copying the data but it really essentially depends on how much data you are copying.

Not issues, works as intended. 2.5 or 3.5 you name it.
Ive had it for a few years now and it still runs great. The clone ability is simple but a little worrisome as I don't ever want to clone the wrong drive by putting in the wrong order, and there is no marking on the unit itself that tells you which slot is the main slot and which one is the clone.Besides that...the build itself is solid but the hollow interior is left to be desired.

Great tool to copy from one drive to another!
As a computer technician, I do have to copy file from one hard drive to another on a regular basis. This hard drive docking station is simple to use and really fast. You have nothing to download to make it work; just plug it in and let it do all the work. For offline clone, you just have to connect the power cable, place the switch to "on" position and press the direct copy button. LED's on the docking station will indicate you when your copy is completed. If you need to access the files on your computer, then connect the included USB cable from the docking station to your computer. I really love it, great thanks! I would definitely buy it again!

Works well
I have been using this unit for about a month. Unit is very light in weight compared to my older single bay unit from another manufacturer. This unit recognizes 3 - 6 TB drives with very little delay. It also had no difficulty reading files from a drive which was showing them as being corrupted when plugged into my older device. File transfer speeds are very good with USB 3. Have not tried the clone function at this time. Very happy at this time due to reliability, functionality, and reasonable price.
