Bright; Good light quality; Fantastic, wide-angle beam coverage
I purchased my first Zebralight headlamp three years ago and absolutely love it. The light quality is spectacular, and the narrow focus on that light was exactly what I wanted when repairing things in dark places. However, for outdoor use, that light was both too dim and too focused. I wanted something much brighter, and something that would cast its light over a wider area. I researched the current Zebralight line, and this particular model jumped out at me as being precisely what I wanted.I received the light and immediately put in an old 18650 battery. I was blown away by how great this light is. I like all the settings; I like the programmability (you can set additional light levels in addition to those which are factory set); and I like the light quality and breadth of the beam. The only issue I had is that my old LiOn batteries (scavenged from old laptop battery packs) didn't seem to be able to keep the light going at level "1B" (i.e., the sub-level of the brightest setting, which is about 90% of full brightness). What would happen is that after 2-3 minutes of operation at this bright level, the light would automatically switch down to a lower level, a great feature of the light that lets you continue to use the light as your battery nears the end of its charge. At first I was not sure if I had a defective light, or whether my old battery was the cause. So I went ahead and bought what many people consider to be the best 18650 battery, the Orbtronic 3400mAh protected 3400mAh by Panasonic.3400mAh 18650 Battery ORBTRONIC PROTECTED Button Top Rechargeable High Performance Li-ion 3.7V for High Power FlashlightsWhen it arrived, I charged the battery and did some tests. The light now works perfectly, for long periods of time. This is a great headlamp.

The light seems to be well built. It is very light weight even with a battery in it. The controls are rather simple and once you get used to them it is pretty easy to get what level of light you want quickly. I haven't worn the headlamp strap, but it appears to be well built and the straps are rather soft and seem like they will be comfortable. I was curious when I ordered the light of whether the light would be bright enough. After getting the light and throwing some fresh batteries in it I tried it out. The bright settings are almost too bright actually. Even in a bright room the lower setting over powers the ambient light easily. The brightest setting almost hurts to see. I imagine it would be great for someone looking for a lot of light. The light also starts to get warm quickly at that setting. I haven't tried to use that setting for very long simply because I don't need it so I cant attest to how it performs when it gets hot or how well the thermal lock out works. On the flip side you can set the light to a setting so low it is almost hard to tell it is on unless your vision has adapted to the dark. I really like the low setting because it would be perfect at night for that little boost of light without ruining your night vision or waking up a fellow camper. It also is really nice for just a little bit of light to read. I would love a red light setting, but the ability to set the low setting really low makes up for it to some degree. The one improvement I think they could make with the light is making a way to make each light setting more adjustable. The locked in low setting is only slightly less bright than the medium brightness. When I might need a medium brightness I find the locked in low setting about perfect. If I need a lot of light I would just go to the high setting. In addition there is no pocket clip included with the light. Day to day the pocket clip would be really useful.
