It's a very relaxing and fun way to start picking up a new hobby!
The first half of the book teaches you how to get comfortable with the brush and watercolor by encouraging you to doodle. It teaches you how to make little cute characters using strokes and blotches with the brush. It's very stress-free with little room to mess up because there's nothing really to follow, it's all about you and your creativity! It does get a little bit technical by the end of the book, teaching you how to do landscapes, lighting, ect, although not technical enough to be more than a fun introduction to water coloring, which is less stressful than buying a textbook, ect. I got it as a 23 year old college student and then I bought it for my 60 year old dad! I'm doing a page a day and it's very relaxing! I definitely recommend.

Great for kids and adults! Love it!
I am very new to doing anything artistic. A friend recommended this book. I cannot believe the quality and thought that went into the production of this item.! Every other page is very good quality paper forReading the instructions etc. and the next page is very good quality watercolor paper! A lot of thought went into making this book very usable and the approach to teaching is very appealing to someone who has not had very much experience with this… It makes it a lot of fun!

What a fun (and funny!) book
I had this book years ago and so glad to find it again, to give as a gift. Great for learning how to just have FUN with watercolor paints. Humor is great and excellent painting tips too. The paint set that it comes with honestly isn't bad quality either. Just buy it!

Great quality!
I bought this book for my 11-year-old son to use. I am very impressed with the quality of this product. I’m about to order a second one to give to another 11-year-old as a gift. The authors do gently walk you through an art lesson as you flip through the pages but there’s also plenty of space to be creative as you go, so the lesson is not so restrictive and probably will keep child’s interest longer. Highly recommend for artsy kids or to encourage creativity. I think it would be best for kids 10 and up though. Younger kids could do it no problem but they probably wouldn’t follow the lesson and fully learn what the authors are trying to teach unless it was used as a parent-led activity.

Great book for all ages!
Got one for each of the grandchildren as a break from laptops, tablets, and t.v. They love it! Ages 10, 8, 4. The 4 and 8 year old need some assistance in following the directions. They do a few pages a day for an hour. Sitting around the table together with mom or dad, they are engrossed in creating, discussing, explaining their art and ideas. Both my daughter and myself have ordered our own book.Easy to follow instructions. Good quality paper and paint. Decent paint brush.

Great gift for budding artists
My 9-year-old grandson wanted to try his hand at watercolor (so he could make "cool" pictures like Grandma). I bought this book after reading many high praise reviews. The paper (there's a lot of it) is good quality, the paints are vibrant and of high quality and the tutorials are kid-friendly and easy to execute. If my grandson decides he really wants to pursue watercolors more seriously I will invest in paper, brushes and more high-quality paints but this book is a great introduction. You can't go wrong with Klutz.

Absolutely fantastic!
I searched for quite a while to find a great watercolor instruction book like this for my 6yr old niece. Well, it just arrived and it is much better than I anticipated! Tons of ideas, watercolor paper on which to try out all sorts of things like splatter, color mixes, washes, inventing beasties, light and shadow, etc. Honestly, this can be used by ANYONE just learning to use watercolors! It's done in a very fun, and informative way. I cannot wait to give it to her.

Great intro!
Fun start with watercolor basics for kids AND adults. After buying one for myself, I've gifted them to my adult kids, and we've all enjoyed them.

Great for adults too....
Never mind the kids.... i am in my 50s and bought it for myself and love it! The quality of the paints and the paper is really top. I sat for ages just doodling with the exercises they set for you. The casual language of the book is very suitable for any age. Its great for getting a feel for textures and colours and composition before you embark on the real thing. It has really got me started and enthused as i have always had a barrier about starting on an empty page. Just goes to show to don’t need to spend a shedload of money on equipment. Might be improved even more if they had a variety of paper textures to play with too.

Excellent book
I'm a beginner - my artistic skills are pretty limited and this book is aimed at people like me. Lots of practical exercises to do to help you learn, and they can all be done in the book.Simple approach but at the right level and its approach makes me want to do more - which is one of the biggest motivations you can have!Comes with some watercolour paint and a brush; great paper suitable for watercolour on the exercise pages, which believe me makes a huge difference to using regular paper for practicing on.

I love it !
This is for a grand child’s birthday, she is going to say “WOW” !I and her mum are going to have to make her slow down and not go through it like a child version of steam trainI have been trying to show her wet into wet, making clouds by rolling a clean damp brush in a wet sky, etc but this book really looks brilliant. She is going to have some fun, only problem being her sibling will want one too
