I was getting ready to get rid of my vacuum and buy a new one. Then I saw on YouTube that it may be as simple as replacing this brush roll. It worked! Now my vacuum sucks up and rolls like new!

This was a long over due purchase! I have vacuum marks again in my carpets-a sign of a job well done!Will update brushes more often now that I see the results! Great fit and easy to install.

Our XL 21 is now around 24 (years old) and it still sucks as much as it did new. We, actually I, have replaced many parts. I have also noted that the price of the XL 21 new today is about a third of what I think we paid for it. This is important to keep in mind because if you are replacing the brush it probably means that you will soon be replacing other components as well. So do you put $100 in parts into a 20+ year old vacuum cleaner that you can buy new for $180?When installing there are two important things to pay attention to. The first is to use a hand screwdriver to remove the screws and to put them back in. If you don't, no matter how careful you are you will strip the screw holes and your bottom panel won't be held in place, it will leak suction and the belt will have a hard time staying on. Just use a regular old #1 phillips head screwdriver, the manual kind with a long shaft because trust me as good as you think you will be at not over-torquing the screws, you will over torque the screws.Second thing, watch carefully how the squared ends of the bracket fit into the mounting slots. The best way to do this is to take a photo of the brush ends and how they fit into the slots on the housing. If you put the ends in incorrectly it makes it more difficult to reassemble.

Bought this for my Oreck XL21 10 months ago as the original brush roll seized up after many years. The product fit ok and worked ok for 2 months but now the belt constantly slips off of the wheel every time I start the vacuum. It would stay on sometimes up to 8 min or so but would come right off again on restart. I have changed the belts. I still had some left from the previous bar and I know the belts are not the problem. I see a couple of other reviewers had the same issue. Save yourself the frustration and look elsewhere for this part.

I don't like being lied to. It is not Oreck, it fits. It's a much lower quality than actual Oreck parts.
