Slight fine tuning required
I bought this as a spare for my cube at work. I didn't want a huge investment either walking off or getting damaged accidentally. Initially I wasn't that thrilled with it for a few reasons - 1. action was high, and 2. the tone wasn't even close to my other Ukulele. I wasn't expecting this one to be pristine but it did take some fine tuning AFTER the breaking period.I was really at the point of thinking "why did I throw money away on this?". After closer inspection I figured I had nothing to loose by trying to remedy the situation. My issue with it was that there were two things that contributed to it not staying in tune. String height, and strings being bound up in the nut. Solution - I loosened the strings and removed the plastic bridge. (Note: loosened, not removed the strings) After carefully measuring it I ground it down .100ths of an inch with a belt sander. cleaned and smoothed it out with a nail fie, and replaced the bridge. I then applied some graphite based string lube on the nut below each string. Once I tighetend the strings there was an immediate difference. The string action/height was perfect even right down the neck. It plays a world better and stays in tune now. At least at this point I won't regret putting new strings on it.If you can get it at a good price point, it's worth it. It is very possible that yours won't need all this work. Otherwise, spend a little more and get what you pay for. The finish on this is like a blank canvas. I am happy enough with it now that I want to add some personal graphics with a paint pen.
