If it is full of clothing or food, etc, the upper 20% or so will be visible above the surface of the water. You can make it more buoyant by sealing more air into it. BUT..... Not only is this bag big enough to hold all my gear, once it is closed properly at the top (you roll it down toward the straps and click the fasteners) it is completely waterproof! I was on a whale watching adventure in Iceland, and it was raining steadily. As you can see from the picture, those individuals who brought backpacks suffered mightily. All the gear in my dry bag was protected. I appreciate that the large size is created with backpack straps. It made hiking much easier. You can also carry the bag from the handle that is created once it is closed. The bag is quite durable. It was moved from place to place on the boat and tossed on the ground during hikes and never showed any type of wear and tear. It’s also easy to clean. You can use a damp microfiber cloth to wipe it down. If it’s really dirty, you can run it underwater! I chose the color orange because I like that color, but also because of its visibility. In the event that I should ever get lost, my rescuers will be able to spot me! This waterproof dry bag is a bit heavy, but that’s not a dealbreaker for me because of how effective its features are.
