A lifesaver that I hope never to have to deploy
I am both a pilot and diver. For my airplane I have an emergency GPS locator in case of a crash, so why not have one for diving? After seeing the movie about the 2 divers in Australia that were left behind in the middle of the ocean, I immediately ordered the Nautilus and made it part of my must have equipment, even when I travel to dive. I went through the test procedure in the manual and it worked on the 2nd try (not sure why not on the first one). I don't expect to ever have to use it, but if I do I will need the little tool to rewind the antenna back in. I doubt that after a few years I will find the box with the antenna. Would be nice to have it included in the housing. Otherwise, this is a must equipment for every diver. You have insurance on your car, house, you also have DAN insurance, so why not have insurance on your life with the Nautilus.

Did not work
It's good in concept, but in my case the unit did not work properly on arrival. It did not find GPS signal nor was it possible to program using the iPhone app. This doesn't instill confidence, since it has to work when you most need it. Pity.

It leaked...
We were going to test it out on the boat in the middle of the Bandar sea Indonesia after I'd been diving for a week already. We flipped up the cover and water ran out of it?So I don't know if it's ruined or not, what's the next step on how we get it replaced? Thanks, Ed

Fingers crossed! Wish me luck folks. I'm not the best swimmer..
The whole process of setting this thing up is not reassuring at all. The purpose of this device is to give you piece of mind. However, after trying to follow the instructions on how to register and enable the product, I'm left wondering if I've set it up correctly. Do you really want to travel to some far off place, bob up and down in the water without a boat in sight, and then push the emergency button and wonder if you've set it up correctly? The biggest point of confusion for me is that the manual states that if you have a Serial Number that starts with "16", the Orange test light should blink quickly. And then "all other" Serial Numbers should blink once every 5 seconds. Well my Serial Number starts with 17 and it blinks very quickly. But then sometimes the LED will turn Blue, which is a possibility that is not mentioned in the manual for the Test Mode. Furthermore, the manual states that 20 seconds after acquiring the GPS position, the Orange (not Blue) LED will become solid and stop blinking. Well mine never stopped blinking. So does that mean that it never acquired a GPS position while I was in Test Mode? I don't know. So I go to their website for a phone number to call. I'd REALLY like to know that this thing is testing OK. Guess what? They don't have a phone number. They have an email address. But I don't want to set something up via email that, if needed, is the difference between life and death. So no thanks. Not going to go back and forth via email.Above is my biggest point of confusion. But there's also the process of registering the GPS. You get to download an APP off Google Play. Why you can't just go on their website and register it is beyond me; seems like it would be better for all parties involved. After downloading the app you input the device Serial Number, then select Device Mode, then input your MMSI number. There's no explanation of what you're doing, just an explanation of what to do. So you're just going through the motions without really understanding the selections you're making. Hopefully you're making the right ones. Fingers crossed! Wish me luck folks. I'm not the best swimmer..UPDATE: So I tried the "Test Mode" again, but this time I went outside of my house (the manual doesn't say you need to be outdoors to do the test). And this time, it did start KIND OF blinking differently. But not the way the manual says it will. It doesn't blink once every 5 seconds, it blinks faster than that; kind of a fluttering blinking. Then after about 20 seconds of doing that, it turns solid orange, glows white for a second, then starts blinking blue. None of these things are described in the manual. So again, I have no idea if this thing is good to go ir not. The manual also starts describing that during test mode, yes TEST MODE, the device "will transmit a low power Routine Own Ship Position Report". Do you know what that means? Yeah, neither do I and the manual doesn't even try to explain it. I'm glad that I'm transmitting position reports while I'm outside my house!

Programing Nautilus LifeLine - Stumble Upon Success
What if the dive boat leaves me at the site? What if the current blows me beyond the ability of my whistle and safety sausage to signal for help? The Nautilus LifeLine may save my bacon. I will carry it if I think I can trust it. However, I had trouble with MMSI programming. The instructions for using my mobile phone's flashlight to program the unit were only serviceable, but they could (and should) have been better. Instructions should not leave me with questions.I downloaded the app to my Android phone (Motorola Maxx 2), followed the instructions, and could not tell whether I had -or- had not programed the unit. The unit is supposed to confirm programming by flashing its internal white strobe two times. The problem was that I could not tell whether any given flash was from the unit's strobe or from the Morse code style flashing from my phone's flashlight (Yes, I know it was not really Morse code. But it is the only way i can think of to describe the flashing coming from my phone). Twenty tries later, I was frustrated and ready to ship everything back to Amazon. I wrote an email to the company describing the problem, and instead of addressing the issue, the reply email asked "what kind of phone do you have?", and offered no explanation or meaningful help. Were they trying to hint at something? The next day, armed only with what may have been a "hint" from the company - thanks for the definitive help Nautilus - I tried one last approach which yielded THE PROGRAMMING SOLUTION - I borrowed a friend's iPhone and tried to program the unit using the iPhone version of the app. It worked the first time. Indeed, the two white flashes of the unit's strobe are quite bright and quite distinct from the Morse code flashes from the phone. I was so incredulous at my success that I programmed the unit again, just to make sure I didn't imagine success. Again, two white flashes from the strobe. SUCCESS!.Now, why couldn't the folks at Nautilus LifeLine just say to me, "Our Android app sucks, but our iPhone app works almost every time. Borrow a friend's iPhone". I hope this is helpful to someone.
