buy it but buy one other as well
This plus the rick Stevens guide is how we made our trip (entire ring road). Rick is better while you are heading to location. This one is better for little tidbits about the culture and random info when trying to decide where to go. The one thing that annoys me is they have a map on the inside with different colors for different regions but they dont color code the top of the page to reflect that. Would make it so much easier to flip to one section to the next when you are looking for something specific. All in all i think the book by itself isnt as good as other guides BUT is PERFECT for rounding out info about the regions and a few things to check out not found in the other. I would honestly recommend buying with Ricks as they really did compliment each other perfectly

Informative, Educational and Interesting - A different type of travel guide.
I read 2 other travel books before this one, but loved this one the most, as it read more like a history book and had great pics and organization. I recommend this book for somebody who is interested in delving more into the destination (or can skip past the first half of book), but if you just want quick overviews you may not be as interested in this type book. I loved it!

An accurate guide book
Spectacular guide to Iceland! It is a bit heavy, yes, so try to study it before your trip and get the mini version to take along with you. It’s very easy to read and gives some important tips and info about the country that I found extremely useful while there.

Color images and lots of history
Nice book. Perfect for coffee table book. We used it to learn about Iceland before our trip. Gives lots of history and background. The only reason for 4 stars is the book isn’t the best for planning logotstics or the day to day stuff. Other books do that better and have more current info.

Not up to date
I found the information to be all over the place & not well organized.

Historical and Handy!
Fantastic historical section in the front that leads to a good starting point for navigating each city!

It has a tremendous amount of information and beautiful pictures. I deducted 1 star because it is way too large and heavy to bring on a trip. It does come with an e-book we haven't tried yet.

A comprehensive, well illustrated, guide.
This is a great book which is well illustrated and Informative. Although each section contains a regional map, the only downside is the absence of a single map of the country, which would have been helpful to see how the areas fit together. But I've now ordered a separate map and can't complain as the discounted price if this book was amazing.

Great travel book, must have for a trip!
Excellent travel book. Used it during the entire trip. A step up from a Lonely Planet which often comes across as pretentious. It was nice to have a section on the history of the nation as it provided a lot of context to the historic sites. Also contains some great colour photos. Would by an Insight Guide for our next trip!
