Fantastic Book.. Highly Recommend!
My son is 10yr old and thoroughly enjoyed The Secret Of The Scarab Beetle, more than most of the books he has read. William Meyer made the story easy to understand and, at the same time, very interesting. At the end of each chapter, he wanted to read on because the plot was exciting. Another reason why he liked the book was because he knew a lot about Ancient Egypt before reading it. This book made him want to read the sequel! He would like to recommend The Secret Of The Scarab Beetle to people who like history and adventure.

LOVED IT!
An exciting adventure filled with engaging characters, a compelling storyline and all the mystery and intrigue of Ancient Egypt. The author does a masterful job weaving in just a bit of magic throughout the narrative--I couldn't put it down! A great book for readers young and old--the kind of book parents love to read to their children, and children want to read over and over again. I'm looking forward to the next book.

Great gift idea!
I bought this book and read it in one sitting- great story full of fun characters and interesting historical perspectives. It would be a good addition to any classroom or school library; I'm giving a copy to my niece, who is in the fourth grade, for Christmas and I'm sure she will love it. Looking forward to Horace j.'s next time keeper adventure!

Great Series For Middle Schoolers
As someone who hasn't read many middle grade novels geared towards boys this was an extremely interesting. I think this will be an amazing series and I am genuinely looking forward to more in this fun little series. This book follows a boy named Horace J. Edward. He is being forced to move to Niles, Michigan with his family. He is far from excited and downright upset about it. He has always loved his family and going to the family farm but after his grandfather passed, it is something he is struggling to come to terms with. I really liked how this book dealt with the issue of grief with out making the book all about it.His parents like most dealing with a death, and trying to encourage and provide support to the living relative, in this case his grandmother. There is also now many responsibilities at the farm that need to be tended to.At his brand new school he is struggling to fit in. There is this bully mean kid named Seth. He is so cruel to our main character. Of course they are partnered for a school project. I disliked the predictable story line, but once again it is a middle grade novel so I am not the intended audience per se. I did like how the bully and our main character developed a friendship thanks to the grandfathers mysterious and magical gift. The gift was this interesting Egyptian scarab battle, which is a opening that leads to a time from years ago. He will become part of the secret order that is known as the time keepers. This is a non stop adventure.I would recommend this book series to kids around 7-13, and especially boys but both genders will enjoy this story line. Lovers of Rick Riordan will love this book. I received this book for free in exchange of an honest review from Sleeping Bear Press that is completely unbiased.
