AC Adapter Charger for Dell Inspiron 1545 65W PA-21

This product never worked from the get go...I purchased this charger based on the description that it would work for my Dell Inspiron 1545 since my original charger stopped charging. When I received this I and plugged it in I saw a message that it was 'plugged in, not charging' since the battery on the laptop was 2 years old and I hadn't charged it since my charger quit I thought the battery might be bad, so I order an extended life battery from Amazon. Once I received the battery I again plugged everything in and got the same message... after some additional research I found that all chargers are not created equal and the laptop actually will accept chargers of different wattages and outputs voltages within reason and it will only charge the battery if the output wattage surplus is high enough to charge the battery after running computer functionality... apparently the wattage output on this charger was too low, even though it is supposedly a replacement for the OEM. After all the rigmarole I tried to return it and naturally my return date had passed by the time I figured out what was wrong... bottom line you are taking your chances with this unit...I purchased a POWR+ unit which is a little pricier but has a 2 year warranty, also from Amazon

Unfortunately, probably due to Dell's proprietary issues, the computer does not recognize the charger and refuses to allow it to charge the battery. I have tried every trick I can think of to fool it and searched the internet for solutions to no avail so if you buy this charger be prepared to live with a laptop that will only work when you are close to a wall outlet unless you are luckier than I have been.

I've had Dell Inspiron 1545 for about 4 years and amazingly it has still help up and needed a new battery charger for a PA-21 or PA-3A. I found this charger rather quickly and decided to take a chance and buy the off-brand charger rather then the actual Dell one. I received it in about a week and it was packaged and shipped in a notorious manila envelope lined with bubble wrap. The charger itself when on and charging my laptop gave off a horrible high pitch squeal and only after about 30 minutes of use it would become extremely hot to the touch. Unfortunately, after about two weeks of moderate use I heard a "pop" noise and my off-brand charger ceased to work. I would strongly suggest just spending more money and getting the actual Dell charger.

This adapter does not even look like the one in the pictures. More importantly, from the moment I got this charger, it has been inconsistent. The green light will be on, I will get the charger in a perfect spot to make sure there is no movement in the cord, then the light goes off and the computer is no longer charging. Even when I can manage to get the unit to give charge to my computer, I don't always get it so will actually charge the computer battery, which by the way, is new. This was a waste of my money. I was hoping to get an exchange with this company so that I would not have write a bad review, but I am out of my window for returning the item. AWFUL, CHEAP and INCONSISTENT item. Terrible, just terrible.

Got it to replace a missing adapter for a customer. Works as expected with the laptop its supposed to be compatible with. The Brick gets extremely hot while in use though but i suppose thats normal.

The product says that this is a charger for a Dell Inspiron 1545 54W PA-21. When used in this exact computer, the computer says, "The AC power adapter cannot be determined. Your system will operate slower and the battery will not charge. Please connect a Dell 65W AC adapter or higher for best system operation." My computer has to remain plugged in at all times, and it stays at 8% power remaining. DO NOT purchase this adapter for a Dell Inspiron!! It is a piece of junk and does not work!

After reading the reviews I took my chance on purchasing a battery and I do find the reviews helpful. I own a Dell 1545 and my stock battery life ended, but my stock adaptor was still keeping it charged. Well, the battery had a 50% charge on it, fine, but when I plugged in my original adaptor I noticed my laptop no longer recognized my adaptor. As my charge was diminishing I decided to purchase an AC adaptor and yes I did receive it promptly, it came in the mail today (12/4/12) and I plugged it in, my adaptor is still not recognized and I am now under 10% charge on my battery. I'm puzzled, I don't know if it is the battery, adaptor, or the fact that Dell has configured their products to not accept third party parts. I have been researching and others are having the same problems, I tried a few techniques such as holding the FN key down and hitting F2 key at startup, didn't do anything, then I tried uninstalling the battery and adaptor in the system device then reinstalling and it did not work. So, what I have now is a new battery and new adaptor and the only way for it to work is to be plugged into the wall. That is why I gave a rating of 2, I would think that the people who sell products should be aware of what they are selling. Frustrated.

I am giving this charger low ratings because, while it did initially charge my Dell 1545 Inspiron, it now no longer works. This item was delivered to my door on February 19th and it's now April 8th--not even a full two months later and the thing has croaked. Well not exactly croaked. My laptop still lights up when it's connected, however my computer has begun to reject it, warning me that my system will operate slower and my battery will not charge. Very disappointing. Buy one of these charges is of course taking a gamble, so I don't really have any advice for picking a great product. I've had my computer for close to five years now and I've bought four of these type of chargers from various buyers over the course of the past two years.

Two months in and it has stopped being recognized by the computer. It is not charging the laptop and gives me an error when first turned on. I now must find another adapter online. thankfully the company was fantastic and took care of the issue. If you want to gamble, go for it since the company will stand behind their products, but I went 0/2.

This product did all that was required and was received in a decent time frame. The cost was reasonable. No complaints at all. I'd rate it I Love It, but its a power chord... either it works or it doesn't. It works.

The charger they sent has a hexagonal end, not circular as pictured. Does not fit. Very disappointed.

This adapter has the same model number required by the Dell Inspiron 1545. However it does not charge the battery. Not a battery problem because it doesn't even charge a new battery.

Works well so far, I think something in my laptop is broken so I have to wiggle it a bit to get my laptop to charge. Would recommend.

Ordered this as a replacement for my charger that stopped working. Verified that the Voltage and current specs were correct and that the tip was correct size. The one they sent me had a hexagonal tip not a round one like depicted in the images..
