The Bionic Woman: Season 2
L**E
The Bionic Woman; Season 2!! More Explosive Action & Adventure than in Season One!!!!
What else can be better than The Bionic Woman Season 1?Oh, but of course, it certainly would have to be The Bionic Woman; Season 2!!Coming off a very inpressive and convincing first season of The Bionic Woman, Lindsay Wagner returns for more high-octane high-speed supercharged action & adventure in Season 2, which was launched as part of the new fall line-up on September 22, 1976!! It contains all 22 explosive episodes of that season. Season 2 differs from Season 1, mainly because Season 1 features only 13 episodes, having debuted midseason as a replacement for a departing hour-long show in that timeslot.Perhaps the most notable thing about Season 2 is that there are at least 2 crossover episodes of The Six Million Dollar Man, featuring Lee Majors as Colonel Steve Austun (The Return of Bigfoot Pts. 1 & 2 and Kill Oscar Pts. 1, 2 & 3), so that you don't miss a thing!! Wagner & Majors appeared in some of the episodes of both shows, working together and showing off their impressive acting talents!Plus there are a whole slew of a bonus featurette; "Bionic Blast" where Lindsay Wagner & the show's producer; Kenneth Johnson discuss the merchandising of the series, how the stunts were performed and who their favorite villans were. Also a gag reel and photo gallery are included. But just like fine wine, The Bionic Woman continues to get even better with age!!! This ground-breaking series was the result of it being brought back to life on prime-time TV by popular demand of the TV viewers who watched pro tennis player / school teacher Jamie Sommers die on the operating table in one of the episodes of The Six Million Dollar Man. That was going to be the last viewers would see of Jamie. CBS had responded immensely by having reserected the character from death, giving Lindsay her own show!! It was just as good to see a female cyborg do just about everything her very convincing counterpart male cyborg can do!!Battling thugs and throwing them 30 feet in the air, dispaching the bad guys, running in excess of 60mph, bending and twisting steel with her bare right hand, as well as kicking heavy steel doors right off their hinges and leaping to the tops of buildings with the greatest of ease are nothing to Jamie Sommers and seems like an everyday part of her assignments as an OSI special agent!! She is all business, as she handles all of her assignments given to her by her boss; Oscar Goldmen!!Season 2 featured a whole slew of famous guest stars, including Stephenie Powers (who was also The Girl From U.N.C.L.E.), Sandy Duncan, John Saxon (Enter the Dragon), Vincent Price and Julie Newmar. The set feature five discs with English subtitles and English mono sound (but I have an external stero speaker for the TV in the bedroom which gives enhanced stereo sound and a home theater system for the TV in the living room).I especially like the sound effects on the show - the electronic sound heard when Jamie starts to run, is running, about to punch someone's light out and the loud echoing thud when she hits someone or kicks open a steel door!!! Slow motion is added so that you can really see her in action when she does something bionic!!Wagner also impressively won her much-deserved Emmy Award as Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series-the 2-part episode of Deadly Ringer, beating out several other famous female stars in the same cetegory for their other drama series!!Here are the episodes in order as they appear on the discs;Disc 1;1. The Return of Biigfoot Pt. 12. The Return of Biggfoot Pt 2.3. In This Corner, Jamie Sommers.4. Assault on the Princess.Disc 2.5. Road to Nashville.6. Kill Oscar Pt. 1.7. Kill Oscar Pt. 2.8. Kill Oscar Pt. 3.10. Black Magic.Disc 3.11. Sister Jamie.12. The Vega Influence.13. Jamie's Shield Pt. 1.14. Jamie's Shield Pt. 2.15. Biofeedback.Disc 4.16. Doomsday is Tomorrow Pt. 1.17. Doomsday is Tomorrow Pt. 2.18. Deadly Ringer Pt. 1.19. Deadly Ringer Pt. 2.20. Jamie And The King.Disc 5.21. Beyond the Call.22. The DeJon Caper.23. The Night Demon.24. Iron Ships And Dead Men.25. Once a Thief. It appears as though the episodes total 25, but some of them are two-part episodes, counting as one whole episode.CAUTION / UPDATE;Universal, greatly known for its whole slew of 1950's classic sci-fi movies such as The Deadly Mantis,Tarantula, The Mole People and others, as well as tons of TV shows, has brilliently worked with producers Kenneth Johnson and Harve Bennett to put together this magnificent story of a pro tennis player / school teacher who gets a top-secret surgery after a tragic sky diving accident to transform her into a miracle of modern technology!!Universal has posted an advisory, saying that some of the episodes , especially the 2-part one - Deadly Ringer, may have poor audio quality due to the fact that Universal couldn't find a proper master tape for that particular episode. But remember that this show was in production over 30 years ago, so it retains most of it's original orgins, even though Universal says from time to time that the episodes of the show were digitally remastered onto the DVD's.After the release of the 40-DVD all-100-episode package of The Six Million Doallar Man, it was also later decided that all three seasons of The Bionic Woman should also be released on DVD as well!!But in any case, the episodes should, for the most part, remain intact with no edited or censored scenes.Enjoy!!~Daquan13.

Hey, Babe!
One of the many staples of my television-watching schedule as a kid was THE BIONIC WOMAN. Indeed, my older brother and I tuned in to it more frequently and enthusiastically than we did the show from which it was spun off, THE SIX MILLION DOLLAR MAN. Watching it again after an interval of 35-plus years, I can see why. This series may have been silly, but it was almost always fun.BIONIC WOMAN is the story of Jamie Sommers (Lindsay Wagner), a beautiful and effervescent tennis pro who was critically injured in a skydiving accident. Being the fiance of the original bionic man, Steve Austin, Jamie was fitted with bionic limbs (and a bionic ear) by the good folks at the Office of Scientific Intelligence, and soon became a top agent for the US of A. Working for the redoubtable Oscar Goldman (Richard Anderson), and occasionally tuned up by super-scientist Rudy Wells (Martin E. Brooks), the now-bionic woman is pitted against spies, thieves, assassins, aliens, kidnappers, and all other forms of bad guy, while keeping her new day job as a schoolteacher in Ojai, California. It goes without saying, though I am going to say it anyway, that a show like this, with a very limited cast, rests entirely on the shoulders of its star. Luckily, Lindsay Wagner was the perfect choice. She's beautiful in a very athletic, girl-next-door kind of way, and lights up every room she comes into, but she can also act. Okay, maybe a few of her performances are a bit outré (her Southern accent is a bit over the top), but she has immense charm and particularly when she's expressing kindness, humor or upset, she's damned good. The way she portrays Jamie is excellent. Being an outsider to the spy game with what might be described as a light-hearted, kind, anti-authoritarian, non-violent, mischevious personality, she changes none of this once she works for the OSI. Jamie will kick butt if necessary, but she will not kill, and will not even handle a gun, unless it's to bend it like foil or chuck it a mile away using her bionic powers. She takes orders, but only the ones she really agrees with (causing Oscar much exasperation), and balances 70s-era feminism with a kind of exasperated amusment at the frequently patronizing and some times chauvinistic attitude of the men she meets. In short, Jamie is the antithesis of the "modern" female hero, who is invariably as coarse, brutal and cruel as her male counterpart. That's what made BIONIC WOMAN so wonderful in the 70s, and perhaps even more wonderful now. Like BUFFY, a show over which it had an obvious influence, BIONIC WOMAN showed that a female hero did not have to sacrifice anything to BE a hero. Some of my favorites episodes from Season 2:In This Corner, Jamie Sommers -- Jamie infiltrates a group of pro wrestlers to root out a spy ring operating in plain sight. Also in plain sight, Lindsay Wagner's body, which is barely covered by her wrestling outfit. Her shtick as a trash-talking WWE style diva is great stuff.Road to Nashville - Jamie poses as a nascent country-western singer to, you guessed it, root out another spy ring. We get to hear Wagner's singing voice (not bad!), and see her country girl stage outfit (hideous).Black Magic -- Posing as a potential heiress to a fortune to unmask yet more spies, Jamie appears at a creepy, isolated mansion in the bayou to attend the reading of a will. This episode, which is borderline horror (with comedy thrown in), features Vincent Price, Abe Vigoda, William Windom and Julie Newmar.Sister Jamie -- Always up for a costume change, Jamie poses as a nun to investigate a ring of crooks exchanging diamonds for heroin. Hey, it's a break from spies, right? The Vega Influence -- In another, and very effective, "horror" episode, Jamie arrives at a remote military base to discover the personnel seem to have vanished. That's bad, but when they begin to appear, under some kind of hypnotic influence, things get worse.Jamie's Shield Parts I & II -- Oscar asks Jamie to join the police academy in the hopes of tracking down a mysterious assassin working with crooked officers, but events take her all the way to the streets as an actual cop.Doomsday is Tomorrow Parts I & II -- Jamie goes head-to-(figurative)-head with a seemingly mad scientist and his HAL-like creation, a thinking super-computer, who together threaten world annihilation.Jamie and the King -- Jamie agrees to play governess to the brat son of a misogynistic Arab king (Robert Loggia) in order to protect the man against an assassin. In the mean time she teaches both men lessons in how to treat a lady. The Night Demon -- Another "character actor festival" puts Jamie in the mix when her old buddy unearths a cursed Indian artifact and begins to experience hallucinations (OR ARE THEY?) of a hideous demon. John Quade, Jeff Corey and Gary Lockwood all guest star.Iron Ships and Dead Men -- Oscar Goldman finally gets some backstory! Jamie goes on a personal mission to clear the name of Oscar's long gone, presumed dead older brother, who went MIA during the Pearl Harbor attack and is presumed to have made off with a fortune of government cash.As always, there are team-up episodes with Steve Austin (Lee Majors), in this case the "Kill Oscar" and "Return of Bigfoot" two-parters. The former introduced the concept of Fembots, later to be to spoofed by Austin Powers. There are also several recycled storylines from SIX MILLION DOLLAR MAN which show that the writers weren't exerting themselves as much as they should have been. Some episodes are very heavy on drama ("Deadly Ringer") while others descend into complete farce ("Once A Thief"). But the overall experience is a delight. For some reason, I rarely comment on special features, but I have to say the audio commentary on these episodes, including some by Wagner herself, is pretty good, and the featurettes are fun and interesting. Wagner notes, for example, that rewatching these episodes makes her realize that Richard Anderson "softened" his performance as Oscar when he dealt with Jamie, in comparison to the harder, more ill-tempered line he took with Steve Austin in SIX-MIL.To sum up: this is a silly, fun, family-friendly television show with a lovely, charming lead actress, and will tickle the nostalgia bone of anyone who grew up in the 70s or 80s. Give it a shot.

Bionic Woman 2
This was a great fun science fiction series from the 1970s. This is season two of the Bionic Woman. It was a spin off series from the Six Million Dollar Man. That show was based on the novel "Cyborg" by Martin Caidin, The title role of Steve Austin, the main character was played by Lee Majors. The story of the original novel and the later series is the crash of former astronaut Steve Austin as he tests a new craft, Austin is severely injured in the crash and is "rebuilt". His right arm, both legs and left eye are replaced by "bionic" implants that enhance his strength, speed and vision far above human normality. The Six Million Dollar Man had been very succesful and during season two there was a two part story that introduced the character of Jaime Sommers played by Lindsay Wagner, Jamie was a professional tennis player who rekindled an old romance with Austin, only to experience a parachuting accident that resulted in her being given bionic parts similar to Austin. Ultimately, however, her body "rejected" her bionic hardware and she died. The character was very popular, however, and the following season it was revealed that she had barely survived, having been saved by an experimental cryogenic procedure, and she was given her own spin-off series, The Bionic Woman. So this DVD release brings the complete second season of the Bionic Woman This spin off series had its own unique style. Jamie Sommers uses her Bionics only when she has to. She usually manages to hide her special ability and often uses them in a way that makes it look like other people have actually lifted something heavy or broken down a door or lock. Jamie has a Bionic right arm, two Bionic legs and a Bionic ear. Some of the stories re visit ideas from the Six Million Dollar Man and the first series of The Bionic Woman. For example robots. (The roots of such a story line can be found in the earlier British Series The Avengers, but understandable here with simular artificial robotics through Bionics)Also the show featured the slow-motion action sequences. This was an idea that was copied from another succesful show "Kung Fu" but had the the accompanying "electronic" sound effects.. For some people the show was just far fetched nonesence. Some people would even dismiss it as daft. However, the show had one major ingrediant. It was fun. This is science fiction where anything is possible. Where the "what if" thought comes into play. This was a good show that you shouldn't take too seriously. It was meant to be far fetched, fun and entertaining. The world is serious enough so this was great escapism. There are two regular characters familiar from the Six Million Dollar Man with Dr Ruby Wells played by Martin E Brookes and Oscar Goldman played by Richard Anderson. Also Lee Majors guests as Steve Austin. For me the Bionic Woman was a more interesting character that Steve Austin. She has confidence but is also vunrable. She is slighty scatter brained and gentle. She has interesting asignments that put her in glamourous situations and gritty moments in tough environments. There is great humour also and the whole thing is just good fun. This was the original Bionic Woman with interesting stories, bright scenes, light heartedness, well produced, escapist fun.

One of my favorite is "The Dejon Caper". In that program, Jaime wear a dress and disguise herself as a prostitute. I am completely knocked out by her beauty. Also, reading the book entitled "The Bionic Book Reconstructed" is pleasure to me. In the section of The Dejon Caper of that book, it says that the facility used was a Catholic School. Lindsay Wagner felt embarrassed because she played the prostitute in that context. She put a robe on her costume when she walked around the set.
