Couldn't put it down.
A friend suggested this and I was not disappointed. I meant to keep it to read over the weekend, but the characters and the compelling story pulled me to finish it in a day. Dystopian, but not dark. I look forward to more from this author.

This is a brilliant novella. We optioned it to adapt it into a film. The writing is deep, the characters are so vivid & real you can remember them like people you met in some kind of dream.Timothy Brown should publish many more stories for all of us to reach into the maze of our humanity and play with all the darkness and all the light that escapes and can breaks free.

A great story about life, death and immortality.
This was a very enjoyable read. The author was really able to bring not only the characters into vivid focus but the feel and look of the environment where it takes place. The story portrayed the importance of family and memories that make a life, even as that life fractures. A real twist at the end. I highly recommend.

Imaginative and haunting
Great concept, great dialogue, great writing, great little science fiction mystery! The main plot twist is a doozy you'll never see coming. It's mysterious, funny, grim, haunting, and imaginative, and a couple of revelations will have you stunned. Recommended.

A Masterpiece - Hugo worthy
John Kenedy O'Toole killed himself at the age of 32, leaving behind the manuscript of A Confederacy of Dunces. He had rejections from every publisher known to man, but his indomitable mother finagled an appointment with Walker Percy, and left the manuscript with him.Think about that. Walker Percy must have opened that rejected manuscript with great trepidation. What are the odds that it's any good? And there is the mother of the dead boy to reject one more time.....I can imagine Percy's relief as what he read filled him with wonder. It was good. Really good - REALLY REALLY GOOD. He got it published, it won the Pulitzer Prize, Mom was vindicated, and we can hope O'Toole gets invited to some really swank parties in the Afterlife.Which brings me to POLARIS. I acquired the book from the author, Timothy Brown, when he made a one day stop in Maine on his way from the West Coast to Europe. And I opened it with every bit as much trepidation as Walker Percy must have - what if it sucks? Authors can be a flighty bunch, and keeping Hesse and Hemingway in mind, would you want to be the Opinion that closes the circle? Even the worst book is an enormous effort to create, and somehow in this Degenerate Age, Mr. Brown has even managed to get it published (in England of course - the US doesn't do "publishing" anymore). My relief was palpable, and by page 41 I was convinced I was reading a masterpiece. It was like reading Philip K. Dick, as if ghostwritten by Ray Bradbury. Surreal, beautifully plotted, spooky and impossible to pin down until the last few pages. I finished in less than a day, and immediately reread large parts of it. My granddaughter is reading it now.Get it and read it. If the Hugos still worked, this would have been nominated. You won't be disappointed. Now I'm off to read the other reviews and see if anybody else got it :-)

A friend recommended the book and was crazy about it and I really didn't know what to expect. Turns out to be a great read. It's fast-paced, well structured, and does what really good science fiction does, take on larger issues in the context of another reality. The science seems well grounded and researched and believable, just when you think you know what's happening, you don't.

Excellent Writer!!
Mr. Brown is a wonderful storyteller. His is a unique vision and one that makes this book intensely readable and captivating. The imagery in the book is stark and cinematic. He has a knack for great dialogue. I cannot recommend this book enough. Please read it!
