I always carry one of Tom Harrison maps and a compass in the back country, it will literally save your life if you get lost. I also have a GPS but often use the map and go old school with the compass. If you do any sort of wilderness or back country camping, do yourself a favor and learn how to use a map and compass. It's fun and you won't regret it. Requires NO batteries.

Detailed and durable the two most important features in a map this one is small too which is nice for backpacking. I did the five lakes loop mineral king this map was excellent.
