Some complained about the mat being curled up after taking it out of the box. This was the case with ours but we laid it on the deck on a recent warmer day and with the sunlight it flattened out just fine in a couple of hours or so. Others also complained about the odor and it did initially smell like the used tires it is made from but we laid it out in a separate area and any easily noticeable odor dissipated in a few days. Any odor is now only evident if one puts his/her nose up close (and once is enough just to satisfy any curiosity). It is advertised as being safe for composite decks which is what we have. It seems like it will be durable and should do the job of keeping bbq debris or the occasional ember from reaching our deck floor. We have grilled a few times with it underneath and so far, so good. It is at a good price compared to a mat we bought for another grill. We like it and would highly recommend it.

Works wonders! And is very easy to clean. My only issue was that it was really hard to flatten out. Had to lay down some heavy pots on top of the corners and leave in the warm sun for a while to loosen it up. But now it's flat and works great!

This mat is sturdy and well made. It has a smooth or a ribbed side. It can be used either way. It come in a box rolled up. At first I was not sure if would roll out. It took a moderate amount of force just to unroll partially and then it would spring back. However, after placing in the sun on my deck it loosened and then flattened without retuning to the rolled state. I was able to cut the mat with heavy duty scissors to fit around my permanent fixtures. I would highly recommend.

As others have indicated, set it outside in heat to fully unroll. Heavy duty and does the job, sturdy. A bit more like thick plastic than rubber.

We bought this to use under our wood burning stove to catch the ash and soot so it doesn't get on the masonry. I wanted something some what fire resistant for the stray ember and I thought that this would be good. The mat has been great! Its a very nice quality and thick. I would mention that when we first got it the mat smelled terrible! But we left it outside for a day and all that chemically smell went away.

It is a nice thick mat that will work fine outdoors once I get it flattened out. It looks durable but the grooves will make it harder to clean I suspect. Still a good value for the money. It comes all rolled up and is hard to unroll because it is very stiff. I now have weighted objects holding it flat in my garage. You do not want this in your house because it stinks like rubber and stale cigarettes. This mat weighs 8-pounds so its tough. I recently sent back another companies mat that was made of felt about 2-millimeters thick and worthless for the same money.

So far I really love this product and The fact that its made in the USA is a huge bonus. I ordered it as a extra measure to protect my deck and it does the job perfectly.The only thing i struggled with is it comes rolled up and was kind of a pain to get to stay unrolled. I ended up sticking it in the sun and weighted down to try to correct the problem.
