Good Rower, Bad Pedals
The rower itself is very good. Assembly was relatively fast, though parts weren't exactly easy. For example, getting some of the bolts in was a little tricky. Also the instructions aren't great, and are missing at least one of the bolts. There are three total bolts that hold the crossbar into the main unit, two in the front and one in the side. The instructions only show one in the front and one in the side. Also, the end-caps on the tubes are only barely glued on to the ends, and don't have any extra plastic that extends into the tube. Very easy for them to pop off, and then you either leave the tube open or glue the cap back on. But none of that affects the functionality of the machine. The rower itself is very quiet, easy to use, easy to store. It's a great workout, and takes up a quarter of the space (when stored upright) that our treadmill did. Very heavy duty, and handles my husband's weight just fine. The pedals leave something to be desired. For me, they're fine. My husband is a big person though, and the pedals were not made for people with big feet. For starters, he was turning his toes outward a little bit as he was rowing. Admittedly this is bad form, but he was learning. And in the process, BOTH velcro straps failed. The metal link on one side kept bending open and letting the strap fall off. The other strap just ripped across and broke entirely. So we have to replace the velcro straps on the pedals. ALSO, the back lip of the pedals (where your heels go) bites into my husband's foot. This is apparently a common complaint from people with larger feet. So beware. It doesn't make the machine unusable, but he definitely has to wear shoes.Overall this machine is definitely worth the money though, in my opinion. Very heavy duty and well made, looks like it will last a long time. The swishing water is also pleasant, and so it's easy to use while someone else is trying to sleep in another room. (Our treadmill was so loud you could hear it from across the house.) If you want greater resistance, there's nothing to adjust - you just pull faster. Great no-impact workout for those of us who can't take abuse on our legs.

Bought it as a gift. Just not what I thought it was going to be. There no resistance at all, just the motion of the user.

Nice Machine but took two tries to get a complete one!
This machine works well. Wish the seat had a back like the picture shows, but I already knew it wouldnt come with it based on other reviews. When it arrives, boy is it heavy! We opened it up to assemble it and the nuts/bolts/screws were everywhere - not even in a bag. Many were missing - fell out of the box on the way? The seat bottom/bar was rusty. Two of the caps on the feet were broken. I reached out to Amazon and received another one. We had to use the new box to wrap up the old one and then drag it back outside so the shipper could come get it. It took them a couple of reminders to come get it. The 2nd one was also rusty in the seat so I guess we are stuck with that rust. It had broken feet caps too but we were able to get enough parts from the 2, to make 1 whole one. It works well enough now but it was so much hassle. If I had a do-over, I'd order from somewhere locally so they could bring it, carry it, and install it for us.

Great machine from a company with amazing customer service
We purchased the RX-950 rowing machine in January with some Christmas money and could not be happier that we did. My husband is 6'8" and has had a problem with using traditional exercise machines in the past, whether due to weight limit, insufficient space for his legs, or inability to accommodate the length of his stride. We were looking for something that wouldn't put a strain on his back, but would allow for him to increase the difficulty of his workouts over time. The RX-950 fit the bill perfectly.First of all, he isn't able to use the footrest as he can't pull his knees close enough to his chest to make it comfortable, but with the length of his legs, he has no problem placing them on the floor on the other side of the middle support bar and gets a comfortable rowing "stride" going without a problem. (We purchased an over-sized exercise mat to go under the machine to both protect the floor and prevent his feet from slipping.) Since we started using the machine, we have added about a quart of water three times and found the increase to the difficulty of the workout to be the perfect increment. (In case you don't know how it works, the resistance in this machine is provided through the amount of water in the tank. To make it easier to row, you siphon water from the tank and vice versa, to make it more difficult, just add more water. This system of water resistance provides a feel to the rowing that is much closer, in my opinion, to true water rowing than any other machine I've used.)Delivery of this beast is an undertaking, so be sure you'll be home to accept it. The delivery company brought it in on a pallet that they left with us as the box itself is extremely large and heavy. Assembly was very straightforward though it was a bit of a challenge with the weight of some of the pieces. I would say it took me (5'4" woman) approximately two hours to assemble (including hauling the pieces from the garage to the room where I was setting it up). You may want to purchase a mat to go under it if you won't be placing it on carpet as we did notice some chips in our tile floor from the back support before we added an exercise mat underneath. As far as the manufacturer goes, I have been thrilled with their customer service. We had a problem recently with the seat developing a crack in the supporting wood. I contacted the manufacturer (Healthcare International), and received a prompt response from a rep named Kennedy, who was incredibly helpful. He sent me a short claim form and shipped out a replacement seat immediately. When there was a problem with the delivery, (thanks UPS), he arranged for it to be resent at no cost to me, again immediately. What an amazing experience with a company that I will definitely do business with in the future.
