Copperhead Series™ Snake Hook, The Balanced & Rugged Hook™I made my first snake hook from an old golf club way back in the 1970's. I've carried that hook on many adventures in the field over the years and it's been my go-to field hook for some 40 years—until now. Recently, I've revisited the design with the goal of offering an affordable snake hook of the very highest quality. I wanted it to be both functional and beautiful. Perhaps more importantly, I wanted it to still be functional and beautiful after decades of hard use. Some quite popular snake hooks use aluminum for the hook. That keeps it more balanced by keeping the hook lighter at the front. However, aluminum is not very strong and it doesn't age well. I didn't want my hooks to look like they'd been dropped off the back of a pickup too many times after a few years of real use. Could I make it stainless steel and still keep it well balanced? After experimenting with many approaches it became clear that I couldn't limit the design to off-the-shelf components. So, I designed something completely new—a solid copper ferrule to attach the hook end to the shaft. Now the thickness of the stainless steel can be sized for the strength needed and not just sized to plug the hole in the end of the shaft. This one simple design innovation creates a snake hook unlike any other hook on the market. The result is the Copperhead Series™ Snake Hook, the Balanced & Rugged Hook™. Review: Super well made - I have a very large boa and was afraid that any hook I used wouldn't be able to handle her, but this hook is stronger than I am. It picks her up without a problem, even though I have trouble getting her all the way off the ground just because she's so heavy on the end of it. She's a hearty 8-9 ft long and quite girthy. Very impressed. Plus it's beautifully manufactured, and the hook tip is very smooth and doesn't bother my boa at all. Well worth the price.

**Q: where is this made in/manufactured?**
A: I personally manufacture each hook in the beautiful state of Colorado, USA - Mark Seward.

**Q: What part of Colorado are you in?**
A: I'm in the Sacramento, CA area

**Q: Is this hook large enough to lift an 11 lb red tail boa?**
A: The hook opening is about 3.5 inches. I suspect you would want a larger hook if you intend for the boas body to fit easily in the hook. If you just want a hook to control the animal in the cage, this should work (the 33" version would be better for this in my opinion). It depends on how you plan to use it. Does that help?

**Q: Would this work for a full grown boa or should i get a bigger size?**
A: It’s pretty sturdy but I would get something with a wider hook for a boa. It would likely work but wouldn’t be very comfortable for a large snake. Look into gaboon hooks.

This is my first snake hook, so nothing to compare to, but I’ve got no complaints thus far. Lightweight yet sturdy, comfortable in the hand, versatile, and good lookin too. *update: 14 months later, and I’m still very happy with my purchase. This hook has taken a beating, and I’ve used it well beyond its means (as an ad hoc walking stick on long snake hunts, and have admittedly put too much weight on it when I’m tired or traversing rough terrain… have even used it to hook roots to lightly pull myself up steep hills from time to time). After everything I’ve put it through it has held up phenomenally and still looks good. I’m considering ordering a couple extra, since manufacturers go in & out of business too often these days, so that if I lose or break this one I’ve got a backup
