Lila and the Secret of Rain

This book combines all the elements needed in a great story book: beautiful illustrations and a captivating story. The plot centers on a young girl who any small child could identify with. This moving story combines a wonderful and touching fable with poetic prose not often found in children's books. Both the illustrations and text offer the kind of warmth and wonder that will surely remain with my daughter long after she's grown. The only fault I could find is that the font used for the text is a bit small & much too formal for this endearing story. "Lila and the Secret of Rain" is sure to become one of this generations' classic stories and should be a part of any little girl's home library.

This is a beautiful story about a girl who just wants to help and make things better for everyone by bringing rain to her village. I enjoy reading this with my niece who loves it especially considering her name is also Lila :)

Really cute story. My daughter Lila loves it. As an artist, illustrations are a big thing for me in kid's books. I liked these.

The layout and illustrations in this book are very thoughtful. The tone of the story is beautifully conveyed through the use of color and lack of color.Drought and the very real idea of people facing the hardship of a drought are dealt with itender way.

This is a wonderful book about a brave young girl who saves her village from drought. The story is simple, yet magical. The illustrations are beautiful and unique. I loved it and think it would be a great book for any preschooler's collection.

Great, simple story about nature

Lila lives in a Kenyan village that has seen no rain in several months. The crops are withering, the cattle are suffering, and the heat is so unbearable the villagers cannot do their regular work. When Lila overhears mama saying that the well has dried up, her worries grow. In desperation, she seeks her grandfather's wisdom about the secret of rain and then leaves her village to try and accomplish the impossible. With its vivid text and lovely illustrations, Lila and the Secret of Rain tells a powerful story about the value of water and the indispensable role that it plays in sustaining our livelihoods. Teachers and parents will appreciate this book as a helpful tool for teaching children about natural resources in an African context.

Our beautiful little Niece is Called Lila and this was the perfect gift for her! I thought it may have been a little sad for a 1 year old BUT It is a beautiful story and has lovely ‘mummy/Lila moments’! Thank you for the perfect gift!
