Review: Excellent, up to date JS book! - This is my first "unputdownable" book of 2024. Morgan is a great writer, and he explains JS concepts very well. I've been reading this book for a couple months, and even with taking careful notes + doing all the examples and exercises, I'm already almost done with chapter 5. Like I said, it's hard to put down. I'm also taking an online JS course and this book has been a great supplement/explainer for the course material. I would say if you're the type to learn from books, this is the most up to date/accessible JS book on the market right now.
Review: Hmm a bit too complicated for beginners - I thought this would he a crash course like the Pyhthon crash course series. But the examples are too complicated. The author dives too much into details. And I’m trying to get through an example project about music. Learning javascript AND learning a difficult topic like music theory is a bit too much. Sometimes I get the feeling that this writer is very passionate about music and javascript but he is forgetting he is writing for people who are just starting to learn about Javascript. I liked the game example. And I liked the examples about Classes. I learned the basics about Javascript but this did not feel like a crash course. It was sometimes too difficult and not right for a beginner. I would recommend using kore simpler examples like filling in a form, creating a website or to do app or graphic bar chart app. The game is also ok. But the project about music is too advanced. If you have never programmed before and trying to learn javascript this should NOT be your first Javascript book.

### ⭐ Not clear who the audience of this book
*by Q***N on November 11, 2025*

I'm a software engineer looking to pick up javascript on the side. This book was too easy explaining things like what an array and dictionary is. I was looking to learn javascript in an weekend this waste my time with simple concepts. Not sure who this book is for
