Works fine for Hammock tarp, tent fly etc. Can't help you on the large one. **Q: Or just learn to tie knots...?** A: True, but who remembers how tie a truckers knot or a taut-line hitch to put tension on a rope or cord holding something in place? Been using these for a couple of years and find them very functional and effective. **Q: What load is this rated to hold?** A: I believe it's 150 pounds. They are meant strictly for cargo and tie down type applications and are not meant for load bearing. They can be used under tension but I wouldnt push the load past roughly half the stated limit, maybe to 80 pounds or less. **Q: will it damage the rope after many small tension adjustments?** A: I have been using for several years now and love having this, & its counterpart (NITE IZE Figure 9 Carabiner Rope Tightener, Large), available to tie down loads in my truck bed or trailer. It depends on the condition and type of the rope used as to its wear. The teeth in the locking notch are not sharp enough to cut. But like anything else, there is normal wear on the rope used. So what I do, is to periodically adjust the rope so that the same area is not utilized for too long; thus, prolonging the use of the rope. Even though I have several of these F9L-02-01 and they work well, I prefer NITE IZE Figure 9 Carabiner Rope Tightener (Large) because they are more versatile. However, I never use either to tie down loads on roof racks or loads that would receive a lot of vibration or high cross winds during a haul. Holds tight! I’m not sure I’d trust it with weight load on a highway unless you have good rope and really double lock it somehow.
