Grammy-nominated and multi-talented singer songwriter Lisa Loeb takes fans on a colorful journey back in time with the reissue on CD of The Purple Tape, Loeb's first recording, made in 1992. This double disc includes the earliest recordings of several Loeb favorites including 'Do You Sleep,' 'Snow Day,' 'Train Songs,' 'This,' 'Airplanes' and 'It's Over.' In addition to the original tracks from The Purple Tape, the CD version includes a full second disc with live, acoustic performances of 'Snow Day,' and 'Stay (I Missed You),' along with an in-depth new interview with Lisa, where she ruminates on the early days, talks about the songs and the songwriting process and offers up sage advice to the next generation of emerging artists.

Beautiful Acousitc Lisa
What solidified my love of Lisa Loeb was seeing her at an intimate venue, Schubas in Chicago in 2002. With just her voice and guitar, and about 100 people in the tiny room, I was blown away. From the moment she opened her mouth to sing the opening line of "This"...In an open room that echos well....I was transfixed by her crystalline vocals. This release is super because it's almost exclusively just her voice and guitar, just like that concert. The interview bonus disc is worthwhile and intimate in its own ways. I didn't realize the depression Lisa suffered from, something I've fought for years. Certainly if you're a Lisa fan you're going to be wanting this release.

Good Good Good!
Great album that any Lisa fan should own. Her performance on this cd, as well as the interviews on the songs is a great insight to where she came from musically.

Finally a Lisa Loeb album without filler
I'm a casual fan of Miss Loeb. While I remember her singles during the 90s, the first thing I bought was her Best Of CD, which compiled singles with the best album tracks. I got the rest of her cds and all of them had too many filler songs, which was a disappointment. With this one however, you get a nice acoustic set of Lisas songs, most of which were later rerecorded on later albums, but here her voice is much more on the forefront and the songs sound fresher than the full band versions. I loved every song from start to finish. The bonus interview CD is a great companion to the album, especially the song-by-song commentary.

a time capsule opened...
(my review for iTunes) ::This album was originally released only on cassette tape in the early 90's, by lisa herself... before a record company & the major label albums that everyone knows her for. this recording has been in high demand by fans ever since, and lisa has been promising to release it. that day has finally come. if you want just the album, download the first 10 tracks for $9.90. tracks 11-33 are what is on the 2nd disc of the physical release, and are commentary tracks (with the exception of the 2 in-studio tracks at the end). every song is raw, acoustic, just lisa & her guitar... some of her best songs appear on this re-release, in their original form.

Good Stuff
Got mine today. While this isn't as strong as her other releases (& it isn't meant to be, these recordings are very nice acoustic demos), it's very much worth having & a yet another reminder of why LL may very well be the best singer songwriter recording today.Disc 2 is also interesting & also worth a listen + it has 2 exclusive tracks for us collectors. If you're new to Lisa Loeb, this isn't the place to start, but for fans this is a must have.

Lisa Loeb is awesome!
This is Carol Butler's son writing this, and I have to say that I absolutely adore Lisa Loeb. Her music speaks to me and I can totally relate to it. I love the raw acoustic sound, and sometimes, her band drowns out her voice, and she has to sing louder than usual, which is bad for her. I was so glad that this was re-released on CD. I own all her albums, except for "Catch the Moon". I met her when she came to Orlando, and she was very nice to me. I recommend this album to all fans, especially ones who want to hear early Lisa Loeb.
