NOT FOR KITCHEN SINKS
As stated above this is NOT FOR KITCHEN SINKS, I would give it 4 stars because the picture & description is a bit misleading (though if I would read all the reviews in advance of ordering I would know... But how many people are reading reviews for a $5 item???). On first thought it looks suitable for a kitchen sink, but its only good for Laundry tubs or bathtubs....

So gross
Will absolutely catch hair, but the mesh is so fine it ALSO catches stuff you do NOT want to have to clean off the mesh. Even spit can't get through this thing. And then soon enough, after a few days, the water won't even go down. Gross.

Best for keeping schmutz out of your tub's drain
This kind of drain strainer is the best I've found, and I've used many different ones. It catches the hair and large bits of dirt that would otherwise clog the drain trap, and is easily removable for cleaning. You do have to pull the matted hair out after every shower, but that's to be expected.Unfortunately there are always bits of dirt that clog the screen. While you COULD take a scrub brush to it, or soak in some cleanser, the game is not worth the candle-- a dollar or so will get you a fresh new one, and it'll stay clean enough for three months (more if you bathe less frequently, I guess). This fits inside a drain hole 1.5" diameter or more. I think this is the standard size: it worked in my last three apartments. For a kitchen sink strainer, I like the Everhold silicone-rimmed strainer which doesn't seem to be available here (though I did buy it from Amazon a few months ago)The only suggestion I'd make to Amazon is to offer a subscription for this product.

I had to bend it to fit into the drain area. After about one month of casual use, no rusting. Good for small bathroom sinks but too small for the kitchen, get a bigger diameter if that's your application. It arrives as a pack of four.

Durastrain 2-3/4 Inch Stainless Steel Mesh Sink...
I use these specifically for our shower drain. I used to be able to get these in the local big box stores, but now they are difficult to find. The ones I had before did not have that squarish bubble in the middle and were fully opened (rounded). I took one to experiment with and was delighted to find that I was easily able to push out the bubble in the middle to make it a full rounded mesh drain. I am unable to tell as yet if they will rust easily or how long they will last. That's why I bought a dozen for now.

"Stainless" Steel?
These things rust ridiculously fast and drain poorly even when clean. I've had one in my shower drain for a week and it's really rusted, I also have to clean it after pretty much every shower. On the bright side they're cheap and better than nothing.

Durastrain 2-3/4 on. Mesh Drain Cover
I was worried this wouldn't fit my drain but it's perfect. If you have a tub drain size, the 2 3/4 in. size is perfect. I was worried about it rusting right away but I haven't had that issue over the past 6 months. I waited to review this product because it wanted to test its duribility and whether or not it would rust. This keeps everything out, no more draino needed to unclog our shower drain. For the price, I would most certainly use this product. Form, Fit, and Funtion are top notch.
