Fluke287 True-RMS Electronics Logging Multimeter

Thank you fluke for Designing such a beautiful multimeter. Incredible accuracy. Incredible resolution. Incredible bandwidth. Numerous features. It's expensive. But well worth the price. It's a true RMS meter which is better than a regular meter especially for doing non sinusoidal complex waveforms. .01 micro amps. .001 millivolts resolution. 50 hertz to 100 kilohertz bandwidth which is very good. I use it for working on electric guitar amplifiers and it works flawlessly. It works for duty cycle and relative measurements. Also does decibels. Nice back light. Very well-built sturdy. Auto range and manual range. Power on and off switch outside the dial. It comes with batteries which is nice. Another feature which I haven't really explored is the tracking feature.Measure and display the value with respect to time. Min and Max feature. Everything works well. Five stars.

Nice meter. Very accurate. I'm measuring DC deep cycle batteries and can see down to 0.001 vols with stability.You really need that kind of accurate resolution when you're dealing with solar and deep-cycle.The unit comes with a manufacturing cert showing how it tested at time of manufacture. It shows various voltages and the units test results.I rate it lower on value for money, because it's a very expensive volt meter. But, expect it will last me many years, so I was willing to invest in better gear.

These are just a few salient points of my new 287 and would encourage you to download and read Fluke's 287 on-line manual. Despite the marketing, this is NOT a scope meter, but it goes a good bit beyond my venerable, revered and dead 87. I also have an 867B that only gets pulled out as the 'big gun'.287 ProsIt's as well built as my 867B and the long dead 87 it will replace.It uses AA batteries as opposed to the rechargeable 867 pack that is beyond annoying.It's true RMS to 100-Khz for audio geeks.It can simultaneously display AC-and-DC, can display AC-plus-DC, includes peak measurements and smoothing options.It can display dbv along with dbm at 600-ohms and other references.Its min-max features are an improvement over the 87.It finally provides for a meaningful and useful capacitance measurement range.It usually measures with quick, accurate response ... very little delay.It FINALLY has a useful AUTO-RANGE system, no doubt aided by the FIVE digit display. I measure a lot of moving-value 1-vac audio systems where the 87 / 867B auto-range function is fully useless. This one ... I LIKE.287 ConsIt had a hard time locking on to Type G and 290 capacitors below 4pf in noisy areas - a backup Extech 505 beat it. I suspect this might be the result of higher sensitivity. In a low noise environment, the Fluke locked on well.Fluke's 287 "TrendView" is not a scope-meter feature. I list this as a con to warn that Fluke's product page looks deceptive. The 287 can record up to 10,000 data points with a programmed start-stop and interval time. The interval is no faster than 1-second. However, one can also program a threshold called an 'event' as a percentage variation from the original 'start' values and does immediately record. Read Fluke's on-line manual to make sure this feature is what you want. You may need to pay even more for "FlukeView" forms software to see the entire record and for the PC interface cable; another reason why "TrendView" is in my 'con' list.ServiceI can't let this go. If your Fluke meter fails, be prepared to throw it away because getting it repaired often costs as much as buying a new unit. That's happened to me, twice, and developing problems with my 867B are causing deep depression. Fluke will not evaluate an issue without sending the meter in with a credit card. This is why I held out replacing my Fluke 87 for over three years when it failed. Beware ... there is NO headroom if you exceed input ratings. It is VERY easy to let the smoke out of a Fluke.ConclusionAnyone who needs a capable meter good to 100-Khz True RMS and accurate wide-band audio measurements will like this meter as the every day capable tool. It's expensive and it costs extra to take full advantage of TrendView via FlukeView Forms and extra cost PC cables. Nothing is free with Fluke, including an optional case. But ... it's a darn good meter.

This is the first Fluke meter I have used. While quite expensive, it's worth the money. The accuracy is incredible, the build quality is very good, and the safety specs are reassuring. You can see a video on youtube of a cheap multimeter exploding when used with high voltage on the wrong setting; and then a Fluke employee holding a Fluke meter while repeating the previous experiment and the meter is fine.This meter has a ton of parameters to measure, and it's rather easy to use. The backlight is really great, the screen is very visible. The only downside to the screen is that the numbers ghost a bit while changing which can make it tougher to read variable measurements, though the bar graph is a good alternative.The recording/trending function is really the key feature of this meter and will no doubt save you hours of headache and hassle while diagnosing intermittent problems. Navigating the menus could be better, but once you've figured out where things are and what to do then this isn't a problem anymore. The test leads are excellent; they are very fluid and don't kink, but they don't stay in the storage clips as well as I'd like them to.Overall I am extremely happy with this purchase. If you need a highly accurate meter, and recording/trending, and care about your personal safety then this is your meter.

I bought this meter for use at work, and got reimbursed by my employer. It seems to work very well. It is taking me a little time to get used to the menu-driven approach to all the settings, but I'm starting to get the hang of it. The battery seems to last quite a long time. I've done three or four logging sessions that were 4 to 6 hours in duration, and I still have 3 (of 4) bars of battery life being indicated on the display.

This is a great meter. I think it is worth every penny. This is way too much of a meter for simple things but if you really need the accuracy and advanced features, this thing is amazing.

Love this tool. It has several key features that help you daily. It works as described. Sadly, its Wi-Fi adapter is obsolete.

When I got this product - I put it in the mA mode and used it for a month, since that was my immediate need. It worked well.Afterwards, I tried using all the other modes and got the “Leads Connected Incorrectly “ warning, which makes this expensive tool a doorstop. No customer support to speak of, not way to return it to Amazon after a month.Do not buy - it’s a piece of crap!
