This is a Concert grade G key Southern Xiao (Nan Xiao) by flute maker Xie Bing. Southern Xiaos look a little like the Japanese Shakuhachi, espeically the root part. Its has 10 holes: - One blow hole, 7 fingering hole and 2 holes for tuning. It produces a sweet and resonant tone colour close to the western flute. Its technique used are of similar to the Shakuhachi and normal Xiao. It has a range from D1 to E3.

Good Xiao Overall
Quality looks good; minor scratch on thumb hole but nothing significant. I am an amateur flutist and xiao player, but I can come close to getting most notes in tune from D4-E6 (SPN); a couple are a bit tricky. Only odd note is lower C . Even though note is in tune, the timbre and sonority of C sounds odd to me--hard to explain (I can use slight alternate fingering to get a sound I "like" better). I was going to say the C# is flat--but when double checking was able to get an exact C#; hard to say if flute or flutist at this point without a comparison.
