The Sissy Duckling

A friend had shared the story with me which touched my heart. As a substitute teacher, she read this book to a class of second graders. The kids loved the book and asked her to read it again. Their young hearts responded to the duckling and his struggle just being himself. Children get it. Cheers to Feinstein for this treasure. Love this book.

Arrived early, well-wrapped, and such a thoughtful concept. Loved the sticker idea — adding a quote for a future one! “One smile can start a ripple.

This is a great tool to use to teach youngsters that it is all right to be different. As a gay man it is a book that I have given as a baby present to a lot of my friends especially those that are straight. I have been told that it has led to discussions with their children about people who are different. It is a good way to celebrate everyones uniqueness.

A great story, well-told, which the drawings enhance. It should be required reading for youngsters in elementary school so that the kids empathize with someone who is bullied and learn about his goodness and strength of character. My first-graders loved it!

Until we walk in another person's, uh, duck's webbed feet, we don't really know how another feels or witnesses life. This is a story about tolerance and hope.

the sissy duckling is a hysterically well-written children's book by harvey firestein. i bought this copy for my niece, who just had a baby. it's poignant, humorous, exciting to read and sends a message all children should learn. i highly recommend!

Harvey Fierstein is a genius! I read this book over and over to my second graders and all the kids requested it over and over. Even the toughest, little macho boys asked for The Sissy Duckling to be read twice and would have gone for a third if we didn't have other school work to do. I purchased this copy for a dear (adult) friend who also loves it.

This is a gentle and joyous book, and also essential for the child who really wants to belong but is made to feel he doesn't. I wish I'd had a book like this as a kid and could have learned early on that I was special just I was. Mr. Fierstein and his book are just gems.

Ah, y el CD incluido es del propio Harvey Fierstein leyendo su hermoso cuento con su maravillosa y distintiva voz. Wonderful book, beautifully illustrated and with a story that all children should read. If only I had had this book when I was young, it would have given me so much self-confidence. Oh, and the included CD is of Harvey Fierstein himself reading his beautiful tale in his wonderfully distinctive voice.

A great read, great fun and great educational value

This is a great story about a very sad reality: parents who do not accept their LGBTQ children for who they are. This story is accessible to many age group (from kindergarten to adults).
