Excellent book and a fun one to read
Excellent book and a fun one to read. How I discovered it this book...I read an ad that said - if you know what a pigeon on a midget on a half I'll hire you. I thought they weren't serious. So I emailed three DP whom I found on the NYC union list and asked the question. All three said, yes it is real and explained it to me. One recommended this book and Dave Knox was a good friend of his. Yep, it's all real stuff. Really are slang's like this are used in NC, but seems common if you work in NYC or LA. However, I have given it as gifts to film lover friends.

Useful if you're writing stories involving movies, TV shows, etc.
I'm working on a couple of book series that are related to TV shows. So, I wanted authentic dialogue and production insights. This book -- plus Tony Bill's "Movie Speak" -- delivered everything I'd hoped, and more. (If you're buying just one book for this purpose, either is very good.)If you need to know what people say when they're working on movies or TV shows, this is an excellent book. Easy to use. Fun to read. Nicely explained for beginners, with some good details for those who've been around productions in the past.

A great conversation starter AND useful insider dictionary of movie production slang
Strike the Baby and Kill the Blonde: An Insider's Guide to Film Slang "Strike the Baby and Kill the Blonde" is a fun and useful dictionary for both filmmakers and movie fans. Its great for clarifying the often confusing, and perhaps intentionally alienating, jargon used by "old guard" grip/gaff/spark crews. While it certainly doesn't have every term, and I was surprised by missing some more common slang, it has more then enough to merit including it in the collections of handy reference material for film students and professionals.

This is fun to browse
This is fun to browse. It's just set up as a glossary of he various terms and slang in the film industry. I would have preferred most history of the lingo, back-stories, and so forth. But I can still piece together the story from the individual entries.

Great Guide to Speaking Film Industry Lingo - Insider's Guide to Film Slang
I bought this as a Xmas gift for my daughter who works in the film industry. It was written in 2005 so I personally got a kick out of some of the slang that identifies the now "old fashioned" film. Today's industry uses digital so I don't know if my daughter will hear some of the terms unless she works in restoring old film reels. Overall, however, it is a good and very informative A-Z styled guide to making a movie and what one will hear on set. It is written by Dave Knox, a veteran of the film industry and a top camera operator.

It's been a fun read so far
As an AC/DP this has been a valuable resource! Not everything in this book may be applicable to what I do, but it sure does give me a wider base of terminology and the back story to some of the terms used. It's been a fun read so far.

"Martini Shot?"
As a career filmmaker myself, it was fun to see all the long-used production shorthand slang in actual print, including some regional differences I myself had never heard before like the "Martini Shot". Fun stuff!

As Advertised
The book was advertised as a definition (dictionary)of movie slang. It is exactly that and a very good one as well. Arrived on time and in perfect condition. It don't get no better. As a matter of fact I haven't received a bad product since I have been purchasing thru Amazon. So far so good.
