PLATTERS - ALL-TIME GREATEST HITS - CD

Still one of my favorite group.
I totally agree with the comment from March 11, 2014 regarding the song Enchanted. I have other albums from the Platters that were missing Enchanted, I heard the song one morning on my way to work and could not get enough of the song after that time. I called the radio station numerous times to request it, listened to it on YouTube over and over, and even though the album has much of the songs on my other Platters CD I bought it just to hear my favorite"Enchanted". What a voice, the song truly takes you to a place of bliss and watching him sing that song I do not have the words to describe. Truly one of the greatest voice up to this time. You will enjoy every song on a Platters CD.

excellent Platter
The Platters is one of those groups with a very long career, spanning decades and substantial personnel changes. And apparently, with lead singer changes, many of their hit songs have been recorded in at least two versions. Add to that recording contract changes, and it's possible to have 4 and 5 versions of certain "Hit" songs. This particular Hits package is for the most part, all the songs that I'm familiar with - well, when I was a kid, along with my favorite rock stations, I'd also listen to the Oldies radio station, which at the time played music from earlier than the mid-sixties. I say for the most part, because one or two songs aren't sizzling with the same searing vocal I'm more familiar with, but they're nevertheless still great performances. And all the songs are very clean, high quality reproductions - I'm not sure what was involved in terms of re-mastering, cleanup, etc., but the result is very pleasing. When it comes to the Platters, I think the thing to look for (and the best of the best from this vocal group) is the volume and tonal control from the lead, as well as the style of phrasing, which intensifies the drama of the lyric and the flow of the song. I mean, in the age of overindulgent song-bird vocalizing - which to me, adds nothing to the song, but serves only to show off the singer's ability - these type of vocals seem to come from a long forgotten age of care and craft that really cared for the song's theme and concept. As an example, the lilting delivery of the lead on Twilight Time, along with the volume adjustment for dramatic emphasis, appears almost effortlessly sung, but is one of the vocal performances for the ages - just golden.Highlights on this Hits collection are: Only You, The Great Pretender, (You've Got) the Magic Touch, My Prayer, I'm Sorry, Twilight Time, Smoke Gets in Your Eyes, and I Love You 1,000 Times...all the songs are very good, but for me those are the gems.

Great songs, horrible mastering
Great songs, horrible mastering. Loudness wars strike again, and serves me right for not checking when this was mastered/released. Do yourself a favor and if you really want to hear this, spend a bit of time finding an older, more restrained master or collection of Platters songs. I'll be trading this off as soon as I find a better one.

save your money
On the cover of this CD is a picture of the original group and on the back of the CD is a picture of the original group known as The Platters. However, this is not the original Platters that are singing on this CD and most important of all that is not Tony Williams the original lead singer. Go on You tube and play The Platters songs and you will hear the difference. Many group bought the rights to be called The Platters and this is one of those groups. The CD is well done but it is not an original be aware of that fact.

Listen to the Platters and fall in love again.......
Those Oldies but Goodies...this takes you back to when songs could be danced to we could fall in love with them. Listening to the Platters today is as good as it was back in the day. If you were born anytime from mid 40's to early 50's, you'll be sure to enjoy this music.

disapointing
I'm disappointed in the quality of this CD, and the singing. I miss the deep bass of some of the otherPlatters cds.
