A Return to Greatness
Having followed FF from the release of Soul of a New Machine, Demanufacture was simply one of the greatest releases by any metal band I had ever heard. I remember thinking when I first heard it that there had never been anything quite like this before.Obsolete was fine, a good companion to Demanufacture that moved a little bit more commercial, but not excessively so. But Digimortal was a disappointment. Fear Factory squandered all the momentum they'd built up with Demanufacture, and created an album that sounded like they were trying to catch up to the nu-metal crowd (something they've never been a part of, despite some critic's misguided categorization of them). So when they announced they were breaking up it was bittersweet, because while they had produced some of my favorite music, they had also seemed to clearly have reached the end of their creative peak. When I heard about Archetype it was with trepidation that I ordered the CD, worried that it would be taking the Digimortal sound further. Now that I have the CD, I can say thankfully this is not the case. For those who loved the direction the Demanufacture represented, this is, as several others are saying, the true follow-up to that CD, without sounding dated (then again, how could it? Demanufacture still sounds years ahead of most of the stuff coming out now). Machine-gun fast, pile-driver heavy, and darkly melodic all at the same time, FF shows that they have a better understanding of this style of music than any of the dozens of bands that have ripped off their style, but don't have their talent. It's also refreshing to hear the dark, earie synths re-appear without overwhelming the heaviness.A must have for any old-school FF fan, or anyone wanting to hear what the nu-metal crowd dreams it could produce.

Delayed by the holidays, but it arrived!
One of the best albums by Fear Factory, probably one of the best that do not feature Dino Cazares.

So Dino was the problem
This is a great CD, by far FF's best. They use more melody then most bands in this genre, which in my opinion is the root of any bad reviews posted here. I really hate that Concrete was the CD before this one, it gave people the wrong idea about this group. The true progression is from Obsolete to Digimortal to Archetype. Archetype blows Digimortal out of the water! The songs are much better written and you can feel that these guys were more into this CD. I liked Dino's guitar work before, but Christian took-over and to my suprise made the band sound so much better. Raymond's drums are almost inhuman!! He's great, the best drummer in the genre by far. The vocals are very good, Burton goes from sing to growl better then most. Obsolete was my fave, but this one took it's place for me. BUY THIS CD!!!P.S. Check-out the remix to the title track on the Galerians:Rion soundtrack. For those who wanted Obsolete part 2.

Beast of an album.
This album is breathes new life into the band. It's fresh and full of energy and you can feel it on every song. Been a long time Fear Factory fan and I stand by this record, get a copy.

An Industrial Classic
This is quite possibly the best Fear Factory album ever, and is definitely the best album without Dino in the group. (I'm not knocking Dino I'm just saying this beats everything else Christian has done with FF) Guitar work is good especially with the memorable tunes such as Human Shields, Archetype, and Drones. However Raymond's drums bring an unfathomable amount of impact to the bone crushing riffs. Burton's vocals impress as always; from the high octane adrenaline of Slave Labor and Cyberwaste. his original take on switching back and forth between yelling and signing in songs like with many songs on this album add to the variety you will find on the disk. The only album I could possibly rate higher than Archetype is Demanufacture, and only because Demanufacture was the album that introduced me to what is now one of my favorite bands.

Product arrived on time and in great condition as I heard that this was excellent music. This opinion actually came from my nephew and he has led me in the right direction many times before as far as good music so I am sure that this will be good as well.

Magnum opus
Fear Factory hit the ball out of the park with this one. An angry, aggressive album tham pummels you into submission, then serenades you with the clean vocals of Burton Bell, followed by his brutal growls. In a catalogue full of homeruns this album is a grand slam.
