Biology For Dummies (For Dummies (Lifestyle))

It serves as a nice refresher from my old high school days wondering why I needed to learn this lol. Now that I'm older I find myself wanted to relearn it just as a hobby.

Great book

The book provides a well-organized and comprehensive treatment of biology basics. The diagrams are nicely laid out and informative. Highly recommended.

good book however it seems like more advanced biology not high school level

For someone who has not had biology classes for many years, it is a clear overview of how bodies work from the macro side of cell function, reproduction, waste removal, genetics, the mutation of cells, and the diseases that can be caused by mutated cells. There is more covered, but that gives an idea of what a reader is going to get. For me, I am learning a lot, and I consider it well worth the time and effort.

A good book e every house should have

I needed a nice overview of biology to provide context as I discuss the topic with my high-school son. This book does a great job of bringing the overall field into a comprehensible primer, and I learned a lot. I appreciate the skillful use of analogies (proteins as worker robots) and enjoy the levity used in the book. I know how hard it is to make technical material accessible, and I think that the author did well. I would encourage Amazon to provide the X-ray feature for this title to aid in the construction of flash cards.

It’s frustrating that the Third Edition still has too many editing errors. On page 8, “…a human being made up of approximately 10 trillion cells.”. On page 15, “Now your body is made of approximately 100 trillion cells.” On page 57, “Larger molecules (think food and hormones) also need help, which comes in the form of transport proteins.”. In the next paragraph, “Small molecules such as hormones and ions may be allowed to pass…” It’s an OK book for a casual introduction to biology, but a good textbook would almost certainly be edited better.

Easy to read.

Kein inhaltlicher Mangel - sondern physisch, ich geb's auf, das hier zu kaufen: Seitlich bzw oben eingekerbte Seiten / schräge Kratzer über die Seiten hinweg, Knicks, Eselsohren, beim Austauschexemplar irgend n Schmutz drauf, riecht komisch. Neu ist das nicht, zum Verschenken erst recht nicht.

Perfect book for anyone interested and little to no education in biology, easy to read and follow along, great book.

Its just biology

Never studied biology before, and honestly, I was a little skeptical on buying a book to learn by myself. Great one! Very clear and well written. I would recommend it to anyone wanting to learn some Biology.
