A Good Sugar Rush!
Growing up in the late 90's/early 2000's was fun! I remember vividly the days of TRL and 106 & Park etc. It was a time of relative simplicity. No, there wren't any download stores or I-tunes. When u wanted a song (and I mean really wanted it) u just went out and purchased the CD....Easy. I remember watching nickelodeon (I was only a kid) and constantly catching the videos for "Bye Bye Bye" and "It's Gonna Be Me". I liked those songs, but was kind of indifferent to *NSync as a group. To be honest I much preferred the Backstreet Boys, or so I thought.A few years ago I revisited the *Nsync songs and was pleasantly surprised to see they've grown on me. Imagine my surprise....I downloaded "I Drive Myself Crazy" and was impressed with the song. The vocals lent a certain passion to the reading of the lyric and I played the song often. It's one of my favs, so when my birthday came around, I said "I need some more of this" and promptly ordered this greatest hits disc. Although I didn't know all the songs by heart, I vaguely recalled hearing them at some point growing up in the 2000's. This was a great purchase! When I finally listened to the CD, I took a little mental trip as u might say. I remember hearing "Gone" for the first time, as weird as it sounds, on Chicago R&B station WGCI. It was slightly jarring at the time, but I always loved the song. "Gone" has remained a favorite and listening to it here is a sheer delight. I enjoy all of the songs here. Pay special attention to the singles from "No Strings Attached". "Bye Bye Bye" had an iconic video and the choreography stays in my head. Try resisting the urge to dance along.I was surprised to learn I liked the songs here from their debut self-titled release. "I Want You Back" especially. In relation the the groups sound, they aren't really that different from The Backstreet Boys. Their sound is harder and they remind me of Color Me Badd frankly and New Kids on The Block, whom I also have and enjoy in my collection.*NSync was so big back in the day. They helped set the standard of the pop sound and how boy bands sounded and looked. Justin Timberlake came out as a solo act and has had a great career and it wouldn't have been possible without *NSync and his band mates. All the songs on here are great and it's nice to go back in time with cuts on here like "I Want You Back", "Tearin' Up My Heart" and "This I Promise You". *Nsync definitely brought fun & lil' flavour to the party. It's a pleasure to listen to them.If you're an *Nsync fan you'll definitely enjoy this set. It's full of fun songs. The music still holds up today. It's nice to take a trip down memory lane when this CD is playing and it reminds me of growing up in what was then the "new millennium". This is a good set for anyone who enjoys pop music or the boy band sound. Recommended. A good sugar rush. 5/5 stars.
