Civilized Society
Got it from another source but the price is the same as here. I went to the TV Guardian website and went to support and watched a very easy video on how to hook it up. The instructions looked ominous on the package but the video is simple. I could not get it to work with my Samsung HDTV which was hooked up to AT&T Uverse with an HDMI cable. So I connected it to another Uverse box (the main Uverse DVR) which was connected to my other Samsung HDTV NOT with an HDMI cable but with a separate (5) component cable hookup and it works pretty good with that setup. Not perfect because sometimes closed caption is lagging behind the spoken words. It mutes the sentence not just one word. Has worked on every channel with closed caption except it doesn't seem to work on the Sundance channel. Before buying this item I have only been watching stations that cut the bad language out but they have started to allow the language recently. I have no information on how it works with a DVD player. This item is a must for civilized society. What's left of it, anyway. *************************************************************UpdateThis product is still a 5 star item. It only works as well as your closed caption works (sometimes closed caption is slow). Sometimes indecent language was not muted but I found that closed caption had not typed in the words. Sometimes but rarely it missed a word at the beginning of a sentence. Out of about 30 movies it did not work at all on two of them (I imagine some sort of different coding). I bought another one through Amazon and also a (5) component cable hookup for my other TV.

... this unit is not user friendly and has very POOR customer service
The company who sold this unit is not user friendly and has very POOR customer service. You need an updated TV and remote to work with this unit. This unit did not come with a very detailed manual only one connection post card. It did not have a customer service number to call on the card nor on their website. Another problem is the code provided from my parents' TV to this unit did not work. My mom does not want to return it, so they plan to purchase an updated TV to use it. Hopefully that will work. I agree that TV Guardian works better and is installed quicker when it is created inside the DVD/VCR combo made by Sanyo and Emerson/Magnavox if you can find them. I have an old Sanyo Progressive Home Theater system with TV Guardian, and the DVD doesn't work anymore but the TV Guardian still does for the TV and Movies (except Universal). I'll try to remember to update my review after my parents purchase new TV and try to hook TV Guardian up along with Satellite.

Hard to set up, but it works.
This thing works well for most CC DVD's. You will need a separate DVD player. It does not work on all DVDs, but only those that are CC (Closed Captioned). It is surprisingly hard to set up, but they have competent, helpful, friendly customer support people at the other end of a telephone call.

Doesn’t work with steaming channels
Disappointed because it doesn’t block language (offensive) on steaming channels. This was important to me. Works fine for rv channels.

Fab profanity filter
Even though we needed to purchase another $5 cable to connect to our DirecTV, this filter is great. It's not perfect, it lets a word slip through once in a while. But it's BY FAR better than regular TV! Thanks for this opportunity, TV Guardian! I would recommend this to all of my friends.

It's just not worth it
It's just not worth it. I have bought 3 different TVG's over the years and all of them either stopped working or never worked to begin with. Customer Service has a big heart, but not very helpful. I guess you can't fix something that's broken. A warning about this newest "LT" model: if you're tv does not have a clearly marked infared remote box (the thing that receives the signal from your remote), don't buy this model of TVG. The whole thing hinges on these IR "eyes" being taped (yes, you have to tape something onto the front of your tv) on the tv, so if you have any modern tv that hides the IR box (most of them), even after you find it, the TVG's IR "eyes" will not be able to send a test signal. Really, this new design is a nightmare. Save your money.

Works on Tivo Premiere!
This is a GREAT product. I have a Tivo Premiere and Visio HDTV and wasn't sure if this would work. I followed the instructions and got it to work on the first try. I was disappointed that the instructions were all words and no pictures. Regardless, I first tested this on the new X-Men movie where young Professor Xavier tells Wolverine to "F??? off!" Wolverine responds "Listen here you little S???" Strict and Moderate mode blocked both words. Strict had a much longer annoying delay but I found moderate to be acceptable. Tolerant mode blocked the F word but not the S word. The best test is to try tolerant mode on South Park. It seems that 1/3 of all words are blocked. Just gives you a good perspective of how filthy South Park and most TV in general is. Are all of these nasty words really necessary? I don't want my kids repeating these words and now I have the tools to allow my kids to watch good movies without introducing filth into my home. Thank you TV Guardian!
