Cast iron adds a touch of old style beauty to any home, inside or out. These coat hooks are specifically designed to have all edged rounded as to keep from scraping materials placed on the hooks.Screws: no screws are furnished as there are many mounting options and applications. It is always best to use the longest screws possible for any application. You have 3 finish options for your cast iron: [1] Let it rust naturally [2] Apply a clear coat (furnished) to preserve its original silver color [3] Painting in any color you desire[1] Rust: raw cast iron will rust naturally over time. If rust is not your thing the most common method of removing rust is to apply naval jelly.[2] Clear Coat: we furnish a 10ml bottle of our clear coat compound which inhibits rust and is easy to apply. Simply pour compound on a cotton rag and apply. Two light coats works better than a single heavy coat. The compound dries to the touch in about 20 minutes and leaves a matte finish. The silver color of the raw iron will appear a slight shade darker. By adding an additional coat once a year your raw iron will hold up well to the elements.[3] Painting Raw Iron: remove any rust spots and ensure the piece is dry. Apply a good quality primer as it will stick well to the surface and accept your final paint color nicely. Use an outdoor paint - two light coats work better than a single heavy coat. Some folks prefer a little rust but not too much. You may accomplish this as well by setting the pieces out in the elements until the proper amount of rust is formed. You may then apply our Clear Coat Compound to preserve the pieces in that particular state of rustiness. It's all up to you.
