Two Stars
I found this book confusing and of no help with Munger/Buffett's simple concept of the 4 Pillars.

Rule No. 1: Never lose money Rule No. 2: Never forget rule No. 1 (Warren Buffett)The author, Bud Labitan, of The Four Filter Invention (Second Edition) always tried to find out how to make better decisions and improve his investments. In the Second Edition of this book he describes the process of the great investors Warren Buffett & Charlie Munger (Berkshire Hathaway) to find a wonderful business for a long time.Bud Labitan is an expert in value investing. He did researches and studies on Buffett & Munger since many years, has read all the Annual Reports, especially the Letters to the Shareholders, of Berkshire Hathaway as well as books and articles about Buffett and his teacher Benjamin Graham. Further he published several books on this topic and served as the editor of Scott Thompson's textbook The Art & Science of Value Investing. What is this Second Edition of The Four Filters about?Charlie and I look for companies that havea) a business we understand b) favourable long/term economics c) able and trustworthy management and d) a sensible price tag (Warren Buffett)These points reflect exactly four chapters in Bud's book. Besides description and explanation of this process it is filled with several practical examples for a better understanding.Chapter 5 gives you a summary of the most important criteria of Warren & Charlie in finding the best companies with a durable competitive advantage that are undervalued or at least fair priced.Furthermore the Second Edition includes an excerpt from the book 1988 Valuation of Coca-Cola, Estimated Intrinsic Value and Yield on Costs by Bud Labitan and Scott Thompson, Phil Carret's 12 Commandments of Investing and Phillip Fisher's 15 Questions Checklist. And last but not least at the end you find a glossary where all the important specific terms are explained.Going through these four filters step by step it will support us to find really good investments and therefore might lower risks especially in difficult financial situations like right now we have. The Four Filter Intervention by Bud Labitan is a very useful book, easy to understand also for non experts they are interested in increasing their knowledge in value investing for improving investments. If you prefer listening instead of reading The Four Filters Invention is now also available as an audiobook.Highly recommended!

FANTASTIC BOOK for ANY Investor
EXTREMELY insightful. The book gives the reader an unabridged look at how to invest - from beginners to the well-heeled investor, this book should be required reading for any student of investing. You couldn't ask for a better teacher than Warren Buffet & Charlie Munger - Mr. Labitan breaks the information down into terms we can all understand. It (along w/ his other book, "MOATS) has helped me exponentially in my investing. A MUST READ!

I have actually capsulized Dr. Labitan's "Four Filters" into a one page checklist vis-vis Standard and Poor's stock guide on the Research tab of your discount brokerage firm, Value Line, and Morningstar. My one page research gives me a high or no conviction about any stock. This book made me a very confident investor.

Mr. Labitan's books have provided me with all of the proper insight and knowledge that I needed to have in order to move forward with investing in a safe and profitable manner. He has proven through his study and approach that value investing is a proven method that is modeled after the worlds greatest investor, Warren Buffet. His books are well laid out, thought out, and I am fortunate to have discovered Mr. Labitan as an author. This latest version, is even better than anything else I have come across in some time.
