These are North American Convergent Lady Beetles
These are North American Convergent Lady Beetles not Asian lady beetles...These are Hippodamia Convergent Lady Beetles... They cluster together as they enter the winter phase of hibernation and re-immerge in spring. They act as a biological pest control because their main food source is aphids. They do not bite, nor do they go into your home... Woo! was I glad to learn this!!!I had ordered them for the garden and to take photographs of. When I released them, I noticed they did not look like the ladybugs, I was expecting. I thought they might be Asian Lady Beetles, but they are not... Thank God.I do wish sellers would disclose what type of Lady Bug Beetle they are selling because we have a right to now. When the postman handed me the box, they came in. I said they sent these out on the 8th I'm afraid they are all dead. He asked me what was in the box, and I told him ladybugs. He said I can take the package and send it back. I noticed the holes in the box and peered in. I saw one moving and only one. I looked a few more times to see if I could see any more moving but only that one. I said no, I'm afraid the one still living won't make it back to California alive. I better just keep it and let it go... LolIt was late and the sun was on its way down. So, I got a wet paper towel and opened the box in the garden to let the one go, and to my surprise there were still several alive as you can see in the picture. Next time I will definitely expedite shipping instead of going with the 8.95 shipping option. but it just seems so strange that the difference between the two options is 1 day.I'm giving 4 stars because the seller doesn't mention the lady beetle type and the lady beetles were shipped on the 8th of June and it did not arrive until late day on June 21st. (14 days in transit) I ordered 1500 and a good many were dead on arrival. However, there were still a good many alive.

Legit Hippoddamia convergens native ladybugs !
The media could not be loaded. I'm a hobby entomologist. I ordered 1,500 ladybugs. They got shipped to me during a HEAT WAVE over 90F degrees. Transit took about 6 days (yikes). And they got left in mailbox for several hours to sit in inclement weather before I got the delivery notification from Amazon! When I rushed to fetch them from the mailbox, I had little hope that any would be alive. I immediately brought the box inside.Opened the box and gave them a few mists of water. Hundreds of ladybugs woke up and were so thirsty they leap to drink the droplets of water, the poor things.Pro-tip: You can give them a drop of raw honey on a small piece of cardboard. Hippoddamia convergens, which is the species of these ladybugs, are omnivores that also supplement their diet with nectar, pollen and honey. Raw honey will provide them with some nutrition before your release.About 100-150 were dead-on-arrival (counted carcasses), but considering what they've been through, I'm not too mad.I proceeded to have a staggered release of 4 batches of ladybugs into the garden over the week. Each batch had about 100-200 ladybugs. That would top out at 800-900 max ladybugs in total... so even with the carcasses, I definitely did not get 1,500 ladybugs that I ordered. :(Anyways, each batch were stored in my cooler at 50F degrees. You can store them in fridge too, and yes they will go to sleep but be alive (they can remain this way for 3 weeks, but with the warehouse and transit situation, max you should do this is 1-2 weeks!). Release was done in the evenings/night only after watering the plants. If your garden has A LOT of foliage, cool dark areas, with enough water and things they like to eat, the ladybugs will stick around. Otherwise, they will fly away sooner or later to other places. Don't get mad when they fly away. You already did your part by seeding these good predators in your garden!Order without any worries -- these are legit native American ladybugs (Hippoddamia convergens). Some reviewers here have mistakenly assume these aren't legit because they read someone on the Internet that the good ladybugs don't huddle together. That's only accurate if they're wild and free outdoors. In captivity / inside your container, Hippoddamia convergens can huddle together in groups when they're resting.Hope this information has helped. Happy gardening!

Very pleased
Very good. Plenty of lady bugs that went straight to work. Followed the instructions and they got rid of a lot of aphids. I did have quite a few arrive dead though but not an overwhelming amount to upset me so. Maybe about 50 out of the 1500. But it was also a heat index of 112.Absolutely make sure to put them in the fridge for at least a couple hours to slow them down because once they warmed up, they were GOING. And ensure to wet your area first otherwise they just fly right off.Would absolutely buy again. Large majority were still alive and ready to go to town once the container was open

Not a bad deal
Bought these to help get rid of aphids in my garden and they did the job wonderfully! The only complaint I have is there was a large amount of dead ladybugs in the container when it arrived.

Very healthy ladybugs arrived quickly
Ladybugs mated and laid eggs as soon as I let them out in the greenhouse and in back yard garden. No more aphids on my pepper plants after eggs hatched and nymphs got out. Like tiny alligators it took them a few days to eat all the aphids on my plants !

Fast delivery and very high live rate
Ordered these to control an aphid infestation on a patch of milkweed in the backyard. They arrived fast, very high live rate - don't think I saw any dead ladybugs. I took the container out to garden took off top and they flew. Glad to see a lot stayed in my garden. They were very active and robust. Highly recommend and will definitely order again.
