Venomous Snakes of the World

The headline says it all.

Got this book for my 5 year old son because he loves snakes and he is obsessed with it! He sits for 30 - 40 minutes at a time carefully going through the book and looking at all the photos.I was concerned there may not be enough full color photos of the snakes but there are tons of great pictures.If you are getting this for a child one word of caution. Towards the beginning of the book there are a few photos of reactions to snake bites that are pretty graphic. My son was ok with it but I wasn't expecting that.Other than that if you have a snake lover in the family this is a great choice!

When our son (10) said that he wanted to study snakes I did some research on which book to purchase. Decided on this one and have not been disappointed. Well written with photographic illustrations. Pictures are superb albeit on the small side but insightful information with some very interesting facts that have thus far been largely either unknown or unclear. Very happy with the 2011 updated info with this edition. Actually bought it for my 4+ year-old who's fascinated by snakes and we both enjoy the book. If you love learning about snakes and are fascinated by these amazing creatures, I urge you to buy the book. Worth the money !

Very instructive material for my grandson.

A great read for the hobby herpetologist. Well written and astonishing photographs. Not detailed enough to be boring but enough information to really learn a lot. But rather poorly edited, lots of typos and partial sentences.

Purchased as a gift for my nephew and he was thrilled when he received this book. The photos are beautiful (as beautiful as snakes can be) and the information is educational and kept him interested. He is 12 and wants to be a venomoligist so this was a perfect gift for a young man.

Overall, this is a pretty good book. The photographs are what make it great. The text is informative, though not very techincal, so if you are looking for a more in-depth book, this may not be what you are looking for. However, for the price it is well worth it.

An excellent book showing the poisonous snakes of the world. The book is very well written about these fascinating reptiles, and gives very detailed accounts of where and what habitat they live in. For those people (myself included) who collect venom a useful tome.

I am pleased with this academic book. My son in UK ordered this book for me and it has the information of the non venomous Aesculapian Rat Snake used in antiquity in Greece and Rome in the temples of Asklepios to lick the patients wounds. The enzymes in the snake saliva has a beneficial on skin lesions.

for anyone interested in snakes this is a must have book.contains over 180 fantastic pictures.Mark Oshea describes their habitats how they hunt and also of his own encounters with venomous snakes.

Great reading

This is an excellent book with some really amazing pictures. This is the best book about animals I ever bought. Mark's stories from his own experience with snakes ads personality to the book. Wish he would make the same type of book for non-venomous snakes. Highly recommended.
