Works very well. Great when you have an ingrown hair and you need to remove.

ICHTHAMMOL IS AMMONIUM BITUMINOSULFONATE. Several reviewers commented that this is not ichthammol. However, THIS IS ICHTHAMMOL.When I received this, I was concerned because the label did not say ichthammol; it said the active ingredient is 20% ammonium bituminosulfonate, which I looked up on the internet. I found ammonium bituminosulfonate is the same as ichthammol. (The label also says the inactive ingredients are anhydrous lanolin and amber petroleum.) I purchased this from Amazon in November 2015. I was looking for information on drawing salves, which I had heard of but didn't know much about. I found this product on Amazon and decided it would be good to have on hand. I'm really glad I got this product. This nice big tub is 4 inches high and 3 1/2 inches in diameter. Since I've gotten it, I've had a couple of little cuts. I applied this product with a Q-tip and covered the cuts with bandages. The cuts healed very quickly. Also, I got a pimple, and I applied this, covering with a bandage, for overnight. After two nights the pimple was just about gone. That is very fast, for me.I read a review by another reviewer, who said it's good to apply heat, like a warm washcloth in a plastic bag, after applying the ichthammol and covering with a bandage. I plan to try that next time.According to Wikipedia, ichthammol has anti-inflammatory, bactericidal, and fungicidal properties.Two more things: Made in USA; and the product is 14 oz., or 396.9 grams. That's a lot. Compare that to those tiny little tubes.

Bought this (yes a big huge jar instead of a small tube) to help get the numerous splinters my kids seem to get all the time. You know the small tiny ones that hurt like heck yet you still can't get them out no matter what kind of tweezers you try?? This has worked well (& painlessly) on the new splinters, it does take 1-3 days but all it takes is a bandage with a little dab of this underneath so it's very easy to use. It did not work on the two splinters that were more than 2-3 days old.My husband was getting a boil-like sore on his neck & we used a dab about the size of a dime on it overnight & the sore practically disappeared...the white head part was gone & all that was left was a raised red mark that was half the size it use to be.This is thick but easily spreadable, my aunt use to have a different brand that was so thick it needed to be warmed before it could be spread anywhere. (It also pulled out splinters quicker...of course I don't remember the name & can't find the same looking package)This stuff does smell slightly like coal, but it's not terrible. With the amount I received I'm pretty sure my grandkids will be able to use this jar to get their splinters out!

I received this product from a company called SOS pharmacy. The small bottle contained approx 2 ounces of ? ickthamol NOT 14 oz. Added to this, the label was written in Russian with no translation whatsoever. I wrote to them and got a rambling e- mail back , throwing everyone under the bus but themselves.. They assured me the FDA had approved this product. REALLY?? I hope the FDA is NOT passing on to us products with 100% Russian language labels including the actual name of contents. DON"t buy it.,if you can't read the label.

Large cyst on back, below left shoulder-blade. Did a lot of research. Doctors say don't cut if you can avoid it.Tried a 2% salve that did NOTHING.Could see no obvious differences between 20% salves. This stuff STINKS of ammonia when you first open it, but the ammonia smell dissipates quickly so you don't smell of ammonia while using it. Tried this for a week with no obvious change. Made appointment with VA.The morning of the appointment (10 days total time) gauze was wet. Called VA & cancelled.Since then a LOT of pus & sebum has drained. The skin color looks better (had bruised), and the cyst is shrunken and not nearly so hard. Don't know yet if this will resolve, but it is SO much better. It has a shelf life, otherwise I'd stock up.

As an old Pharmacist, I can't recommend this type of ointment highly enough for cracked hands, cuts, boils, etc. I was turned on to it by an old farmer that asked me get him some "Ichthammol" ointment... I'd never head of it but he swore by it for healing cracked hands, scrapes and bites.Years (decades) later... I wouldn't let my medicine cabinet NOT have some "ichthammol" ointment in it... I use it more than anything else. This is a veterinarian packaging so they have to say "not for human use" legally, but trust me... it is exactly the same thing you'd pay twice as much for (for half the amount) at a rite-aide or Walgreens. This is excellent stuff... and don't be put off by the color of it... it looks black it the container and when you spread it on a cut, it looks suspiciously like... uh... well.... let's face it... it looks like poop.... ;-)But... if is an excellent aid to healing and very good for drawing out boils or bug bites!

Good but not GREAT! A tad disappointed. Was expecting this to really draw out the "stuff" under skin causing large red sores i occasionally get around that time of the month. I put it on, cover it up & sleep with it on and no luck. I have done that for 4+ nights in a row & all it does is eventually start to itrratate my skin (like a patch of red rash). I will say that the blind (cystic) pimple doesn't seem to get worse. Not sure if the salve is the reason for that. I have to assume so. Thats why i gave it 3 stars.
