Smart Screen GPS401 Gutter Protection Covers, Aluminum, 5" x 4' (Pack of 5)

These are not easy to install, firt it comes with tiny screws that do work to go in the metal, but the problem is they come with no bit for the special head. The screws themselves took me 4-5 tries to get in. These are hole type, but there is also a mesh type which might be better. These are good to block major things like leaves. But the small holes might let dirt in. The material is good and looks like it will last a long time. I'll update as time goes on..

The mounting screws supplied with the covers are worthless because the head of the screws is smaller in diameter than the mounting holes on the covers.

All install videos I found, and pictures on the box, show install on roof with no drip edge - that's an easy installation. For a house with drip edge, installation is very difficult - requires cutting or bending the rear edge of the screen and prying the drip edge away to make room. That leaves drip edge sitting directly on the screen, dunno if that will cause any issue but water will certainly not kick off the edge as intended. As noted elsewhere, the included screws are SQUARE DRIVE (not phillips) but are self-tapping - I did not predrill. I've tried every DIY gutter protector there is and no product - none, not even this one - will completely eliminate the job of cleaning periodically. All I'm expecting of this is to prevent the gunk that causes standing water and downspout clogs.

Just had this installed, was easy install and looks great...

I previously had installed expanded plastic mesh covers on my gutters. They were inexpensive (20ft rolls), but did not do well if snow melted/slid/refroze/slid more, as the snow sometimes would pull the plastic out of the gutter and leave it hanging off the roof. We don't get snow all that often in Tennessee, but repeatedly putting the plastic back was not something I wanted to do. Smart Screen seemed like a better choice. While I saw all the instructions said to install with screws, it seemed that the rounded [front] edge of Smart Screen would nest into the similar area of the front of the gutter (where the gutter hangers hook to the gutter). I tried that, and it worked fine. The back of the Smart Screen is similarly held in place without screws; more or less just snapping into the gutter by flexing the Smart Screen during the install. See my photos. My gutters has some irregularities to start with, and the Smart Screen with the biggest crinkle was because I removed that section after initial installation to fix a problem I hadn't noticed. So the screens have minor bends after snapping into the gutters, but no one can see that unless they are on a ladder. The Smart Screens have gone through their first snowfall [melt/slide/refreeze/slide] without any issues. I'm quite pleased with the Smart Screens and am working on getting them installed on my Barn gutters as well.

Great product i did a lot of searching these seem to be the best for the average home owner that does not want to spend thousands. Look like they will work better than the expensive products. Easy to install and make the gutters very strong. They look good as well. On the down side I ordered 7 boxes received 6 and 1is still lost in the mail. The packaging is very bad all 6 boxes received were damaged product was bent i had to straighten not a big deal but they need better packaging. There is a large hole in packaging to show product and 5 of 6 boxes received were missing the bag of screws. The 6th one the screws fell out when i unpacked from amazon boxes. Overall I recommend product.

I ordered 8 boxes with each box containing 5 gutter covers. Some shipping genius (???) at Amazon shipped each of the 8 boxes in a separate Amazon box, thus I received 8 separate boxes. Seven of the boxes used were capable of holding at least 4 or 5 of the boxes I ordered and the 8th box could have held at least 20 of the boxes. Is the shipping genius on the payroll of UPS or what. Shipping clerk needs to be canned, NOW!!!! The gutter guards themselves are made from VERY thin aluminum and the attachment area on the front of the guards is very narrow. Additionally, I had to punch or pre-drill holes for the screws on the backedge of the guards. Also, the front edge has a VERY small amount of aluminum rolled under to which the front screws are run through. It should be wider in my opinion in order to allow for maximum attachment area. The guards look nice, but feel very cheap and flimsy, like used beer cans. Time will tell!

My Pastor recommended these, since he had helped install them on his father-in-law’s house. My Pastor and my grandsons (10 & 18) installed them without too much trouble. Only one section, which had a relatively new gutter, gave a problem and it would not fit properly, extending over the edge a little. After installation, the only thing I have noticed as an issue was that in a torrential rainfall, the water coming off the roof spills on over the edge, instead of into the gutter. This is rare occurrence here in northern Ohio.
