It works just great. Even being an entry-level matte box, the results outdoors are amazing. It is truly useful, lightweight, and a must-have for filmmakers.

Just awesome. It gives your camera rig a professional look while being super light and high quality. It does the job of protecting the lens from unwanted light and/or protecting the camera lens during transport.It's easy to install, and the best part is that you can use circular filters unless you're already using or planning to get 4x5.65 filters (though note that it has only one filter tray, so no filter stacking).

Edit:Small rig made it alright with their epic customer service. With 24 hours of the review being posted they reached out to make it right. A lot of products are good but the customer service is trash, it inspires great faith in both smallrig and all of the products I use in on my camera rigs. While I had some issues with the first matte box i bought from small rig I am happy to say my replacement works amazing and screws on smooth like butterHonestly disappointed in small rig. I used a lot of their stuff on my rigs and this one has been the most frustrating product that almost costed be a lens.The matte box is great but the adapter rings are the problem, from the beginning they really didn’t screw on to my lens well and they would screech when screwing them on. The worst part was how tight they were to get off, it was always scary to say the least when I left them on for a little while and then had to spend 10minutes trying to unscrew the ring.Yesterday my fears became a reality when not only did my vnd filter fused onto the adapter ring but also the adapter ring fused to my lens (Sony 24-70 gm). I had to grind and break the ring to get it off my lens and both damaged my lens and my filter in the process. Before going to these extreme measures I tried filter wrenches but not even those could save it.Unfortunately this nearly costed me a $1700 lens and did cost me a $300 filter

Buy it! This is really a dream come true being able to use my spherical variable ND filters in this matte box! It’s very light. Built very well. NOTE: if you have a VND that has a “putter”, it won’t work. There’s not enough room. Well, at least when going to 82mm. I wouldn’t count on it unless you have seen it will fit. The “putter” on some variable ND filters is basically a a stem that protrudes for easier adjustment. Great Quality as expected from SmallRig! I’m using it on a LUMIX S5. Right now, I have a Sigma 35mm dgdn f1.4 on it. Which has a 67mm front thread. So I’m using the 67mm to 95 ring that comes with the mattebox. From there, I bought a 67mm to 82mm step up ring for the front. I then use my 82mm ND variable filter. Again, a dream come true. I will buy more of these for my other rigs! Did I mention it looks classy! Love it!

Pros: It can be very useful in sunny or bright conditions where you don’t want any ghosting or excess light getting into your lens. I also love being able to use lens filters on the step up ring which allows me to use an extra 4x5 filter on the matte box itself. It looks good as well and can definitely add some value to your production and make you look more professional. It’s small enough to pack in your bag and the carbon fiber doesn’t add much weight. Finally since the 4x5 filters are placed in the box itself you can use them on any of your lenses so you only have to buy it once.Cons: the hinge on the top of mine is wobbly and has been since I got it, this causes it to sometimes be crooked and in frame so I have to angle it much higher than I’d like to. Filters for the matte box are much more expensive than regular lens filters and to use them you must use the box. You can use a VND filter on the step up ring inside the box however it can be tough to use and if you have a filter on top you cannot adjust it with out taking the box off first. The filter tray isn’t exactly smooth and can be a bit difficult to take off, it’s a bit of a tug of war and if you have a filter in there you have to be careful that it doesn’t fall out. Another downside is the fact that there are no side panels to block out light coming in from the left or right which can be annoying. Lastly it doesn’t take much to unscrew the top piece off so you have to be careful when loosening it to adjust the hood tilt.Overall I do recommend it for someone who’s looking for a simple and affordable starter matte-box. You’ll definitely look and feel more like a pro while using it and even though it’s got some downsides the price and functionality makes up for it.

I popped this bad boy on my camera as soon as it arrived! It’s a decent build for the price. Works perfectly on my Sony Fx6 and wide angle Sony 16-35MM F/4 ZA OSS Zeiss lens with no vignetting! If you have this lens don’t worry it %100 has no vignetting. I can’t speak for other lenses but this one is a go!

Great quality, looks great!But if you have a vnd with screw tightening knobs they hit the matte box!!!!
