I have EXCRUCIATING pain in my ears when I fly without these. I have always had issues with my ears... tubes as a kid, even ear infections as an adult. So any time I fly, which seems more and more for work, I HAVE to have these or I will be in tears. It helps equalize the pressure and I can feel it working. Naturally your body will equalize and your ears will pop and you can help that along by chewing or eating food, even the ‘ol blow your nose trick. But none of that works for me and it seems the air gets trapped in my ears and I have horrific pain, specially if I’m congested. The first time I tried this I cried ... but with happy tears! It’s the first time I’ve flown where I didn’t get off the plane half deaf and popping Advil to help the pain. The con is you really only can use them twice (round trip). I figured I’d try them for a third time to see if the package was fibbing but nope... I instantly regretted that and was miserable. It can be expensive if you fly a lot but worth the money so I don’t mind. They say you can take these out mid flight but I wear them the whole time since it helps drown out other people talking and the engine noise, but they are also super comfortable for my small ears and I don’t notice them being in. If you suffer from pain like me at least give it a try... it changed my flying experience forever, it might change yours too! I purchased both and prefer these over the Flents Flite Mate as they fit my ear better. If you expand the photo for both you can see the design differences. Which works best will depend on individual preference. **Q: Why can you only use them once?** A: The little pad inside the tube is designed to allow a certain amount of air pressure through. The EarPlanes are intended to allow a longer time for your ears to equalize to the ambient pressure. After the flight, this pad becomes wet from sweat and full of ear wax, thus not being able to fulfill it's functions. You can easily use them for 3 flights, but I wouldn't recommend using the same pair round trip. The pair is good enough for one way, no matter how many connections you have. **Q: I have flights from Las Vegas to Los Angeles, Los Angeles to Hong Kong, then Hong Kong to Beijing. Can I use the same pair for all flights** A: Yes. I normally only wear mine for 2 flights, but you can use them longer. I would suggest you take them out for a while when you reach altitude. I think the problem is that they get dirty, and the dirt/ear wax will hurt performance. **Q: how many times can you use them before they have to be replaced?** A: They recommend 2x, so one round trip flight. Mostly because of their design. They are designed to keep your ears open & popping (which they do a wonderful job of) so there are grooves where bacteria could grow. I use them every single time i fly now. No matter that I wear a mask and take vitamin c it never fails that I get sick. I got sick after a one hour flight from SF to LA. But these earplanes totally changed the game. No longer did I have that horrible ear pain while flying. Very minimal ear popping. I was honestly so shocked by how well they worked. I flew 6 times in 17 days, overseas and did not get sick once and did not have ear pain. I couldn’t believe it. Do follow the instructions, put them on like 20 minutes before takeoff and landing and leave them in for 20-30 minutes after and trust me you’ll have no problem. They were comfortable and you could still hear with them but had a bit of noise reduction. On one of my flights I just left them in and went to sleep.
