Limited Utility
This book is interesting, as far as it goes. I found the section on determining what type of employee you are (Nurturer, Star, Challenger, etc.) helpful, as were the ideas for dealing with a bad boss depending upon which type of employee you are. What I found glaringly absent was what I would call "The Climber" type in the boss category. This is the boss who focuses all their energy on pleasing, and earning accolades from, those above them and ignoring the work needs of those beneath them, a.k.a., their staff. The Artful Dodger is close, but The Climber does not necessarily go around bad mouthing staff behind their back. The Climber's approach is more head-in-the-sand regarding any legitimate staff need that The Climber perceives might cause them to lose favor of those above -- e.g., requests for additional hiring, promotion requests. The number of these types seems to have exploded in recent years based upon my own experience and those of friends and colleagues. Maybe it's related to the rise in social media and related self promotion. Whatever the reason, if your boss is a Climber, this book will not be helpful to you.

Every professional needs to read this
Best work-related book I've ever read! It's not pages of redundant thoughts. It's laid out well, reads easily and has practical tools for understanding yourself and your boss/bosses (and even equivalent coworkers/supervisors) and how to turn the pit in your stomach you get when your morning alarm clock goes off to effective strategies for managing the toxic dynamic. Should be required reading for anyone who stresses even just a bit about their place at work or their relationship with their boss. I normally hate self help type books, but this one is amazing! Worth every penny and worth a digital and hard copy.

OMG- it's all so TRUE!!
This was one of the most insightful, funniest, and most shockly accurate "self help" professional books I've ever helped myself to- and I felt like I could have written it! I was there in several places - and my current (and many former) bosses and colleagues were, too! But what was incredible was the actual evaluation of my personality type,(accurately), vs. the personalities of my bosses, and how you can learn to "deal." You have to read this all the way through - you won't be able to put it down. And Monday morning when you go to face the lions again, you may actually understand what's going on - and whether it's worth it to keep fighting or find another arena. Five stars. Seriously.

EXCELLENT STEPS IN DEALING WITH A DIFFICULT BOSS
HIGHLY RECOMMEND!! Anyone who enters the workplace should read this book! I only wish I had read this book along time ago to help with the misery of dealing with a difficult boss(es). This book breaksdown how to identify your bosses profile, along with identifying your needs, expectations and fears to manage and cope with a difficult boss. Presents 4 steps to Detect-Detach-Depoersonalize and Deal that is very helpful. I learned great insight, knowledge and better skills to apply. It's been a huge relief! I now have practical steps and perspectives in managing a nightmarish boss and allows a better workday.

Excellent - read it, then share with friends and coworkers!
This book is fantastic. I'm only 1/3 of the way through and already I feel better. I plan on sending it to a coworker when I finish! Being able to identify behaviors and put names to feelings has been tremendously validating, and finding that I am already on the path to feeling lighter and happier at work has been very encouraging.

Really appreciated the insight- categorization...
This is a very insightful book. When dealing with difficult people, it can make one feel crazy. Reading this book lets a person know they are simply not alone. Then helps you identify who one really might be dealing with at work! Once you are able to identify and observe objectively... You are back in the driver's seat. I have read this book, used the skills, and have recommended it to SO MANY PEOPLE... since I got it... already! And I just got it!!! The authors have definitely done their homework...and have an extensive background. They know what they are talking about. Highly recommend if you are dealing with someone toxic at work. Don't suffer anymore.

If you're at the end of your rope!
This book has been a life saver, though I have to say that I don't want to have to be the one who does all of the accommodating with a boss. I guess that's just the way it is, unfortunately. This book gives very practical and reasonable advice for situations where you find yourself trapped in an untenable situation, and like most of us, can't just quit. We do all need our income. Despite how I might be able to understand and reassess my own issues that I bring to the workplace, which was a very illuminating exploration of myself, I am still thinking that I need to move on. Because of that, I would have liked a little more advice from the author about how best to go about that, and also how to decipher whether or not a potential boss is going to go wrong BEFORE I take the next job. All in all, though, I'd say this book is a winner!

Therapeutic
I love the work that I do and my boss is a fun person off the job but he has no freaking clue how to manage people. I also hate the company I work for. They don’t give a rat’s behind about the employees so the book is much cheaper that seeing a shrink.
