Good for a Review
I had about 30 dives under my belt, but none in the last 8 years. This book had the information I needed to become comfortable with safety issues that was my concern.

Great Resource
I've done a couple "intro to scube" and one "discover scuba" courses. I'm planning to certify this summer. This book has been great in teaching the core content for safe diving and I pick it up to read often. The illustrations are high quality and the layout is great, too.

The best scuba text in the US
I have bee using this book since the 3rd edition and it is still the best text for open water through advanced training courses available in the US. I hope that Dennis Graver passes his legacy on to another person when he decides to hang it up. The book is technically accurate, easy to read and has fantastic pictures and graphics. My only complaint for the 5th edition is that Human Kinetics has put a much lighter weight cover on the book that almost immediately curls up. How much could it cost to use a slightly heavier weight cover material? Then again HK is always about the money.

Very complete
Covers all the basics and more. A refresher for me after taking a few years off

Uninspired, basic, pedantic
As a relatively experienced (200+ dives) recreational diver, I found this book to be poorly written and basic to a fault. If you're already experienced, you won't find anything new or interesting. If you're a beginner diver, I'd suggest you'd be far better served with the course materials provided by your certifying organization, ie PADI, NAUI, etc.
