Durable + Functional + Long = ESSENTIAL!
I used this cable almost every day and night for 9 months until I left it in a hotel room (they say it was never found). During those 9 months, I had bought a much more expensive cable to use with another speaker, (because both were black), and it was awful. I sent both the cable and the speaker back.PROS:1. EASY connections - slips in, stays in, pops out when commanded to do so2. SMOOTH feel - I didn't think about this until I used the black one which was uncomfortably "grippy"3. HELPFUL icons - let you know the "right" way to face the cable for insertion4. LONG length - I can play music through my Fidelio speaker while charging and using my ipod touch 4g5. COMPATIBLE - with ipod touch 4g (32gb, if it matters to u) and iphone4 (ATT, if it matters)6. CHARGES - ipod touch and iphone7. DURABLE - I used the bejeezes outta this thing and it never let me down (I'm still hoping housekeeping will "find" it; I'm here for a replacement)CONS (just for balance):- one more foot would be great, but 4 feet works fine 99% of the time- mine is "lost" (obviously, not the cable's fault)Interestingly, the apple-supplied usb-charging cable that came with my ipod had a terrible connection to the ipod (usb side was ok). I used it 3 or 4 times when it started giving me consistent (every time) trouble. I bought this cable to use with my speaker (charge ipod while reading e-book, or listen to music while surfing web, or charge using griffin usb powerblock from 5+' away, etc.), but, after some trial-and-error, I found that it "fixed" the issue with the apple cable. My "fix" was to plug my ipod into this extension, then this extension into the apple cable and then plug the apple cable into my computer's usb. It was the only way I could sync/charge from laptop. Without the extension, the ipod would constantly lose connection. It is, therefore, my experience that this cable is much more durable than the usb/30-pin cable included in my ipod box, as provided by apple. An extension is a *must-have* for me. This cable is *highly* recommended.I rely on reviews here at Amazon to help me make informed buying choices. I hope this review has helped you in the same manner. If you voted this as helpful, I Thank You! :)

The extension cable served as an extension from my wall ...
The extension cable served as an extension from my wall socket plug to my iphone 4s and it charged the phone, but when I attached the extension cable to the plug in my 2006 BMW X3's glovebox, it neither charged nor played the iphone 4s. When the iphone 4s is plugged directly into the plug in the car's glovebox, the iphone 4s both charges and plays through the car's stereo system. The plug in the car's glovebox is only long enough for the iphone 4s to sit in the glovebox, so I'm still looking for a cable extension that works in my car.

Knew it wouldn't work even before I opened the baggy it was in!
So, I had gotten three of these (via Amazon) back in December 2012 as Christmas gifts. Immediately decided to order from this vendor again, when needed, because my experience was good back then.Fast forward to September 2013. I ordered my daughter a 'new' cable as a surprise. It appeared in an obviously repackaged bag that had no label on it whatsoever other than a random, unlabeled bar code. Before even bothering to unzip the ziplock baggy, I was absolutely certain that the cable would prove to be defective. Surprise, surprise, it was. Read:"This accessory is not supported by iPhone."I am quite certain that this particular product was returned to Amazon as defective prior to my experience before being repackaged and sent out again. (Lucky me.)Will not order from this company again.

Long cord, plays music fine and charges iphone 4S in Otterbox Defender
I was a little concerned about this product as I have read about other cords that don't charge or don't play music or both. However, I can report that no such issues exist with this. Furthermore, it does all of this while the iphone is encased in an Otterbox Defender. Everything works as is. I have read about some durability issues with fraying at the ends so time will tell.A little background before I finish: I was deciding between a cable system like this, or the more expensive but shorter CableJive cable (http://www.amazon.com/CableJive-dockXtender-Premium-Extension-iPhone/dp/B003N3GRCQ), a docking extender like the CableJive (http://www.amazon.com/CableJive-dockStubz-Converter-Through-Adapter/dp/B003TJR2HS), or a dock extender with support so as not to stress and potentially bend the docking port like the SendStation dock extender(http://www.amazon.com/SendStation-Dock-Extender-iPod-White/dp/B000RI09GU/). The cable idea was the best in my opinion because I wouldn't have to worry about any of the possible risks inherent in using adapters (the extra torque of the weighted iphone leaning and bending the dock port when docked or especially whenever I pressed on the iphone while docked). Nor, in the case of the SendStation dock extender, would I have an unsightly white docking station on top of my black stereo system if I used this cable. Plus, using a cable allowed the flexibility to situate the iphone in any other location I so chose within a few feet (4 feet in the case of this product).
