Leuchtturm journals are my favorite. Imo they are higher quality than moleskin. They offer more than moleskin journals. I love the pocket, labels, and two sewn in bookmarks it includes. The gridded pages are my favorite and the paper quality is excellent. Pages are thick enough that I have never had any bleed through. I’m always able to write on the other side.

This item arrived via Amazon Currier in perfect condition. I had to run my son to the Dr. in an emergency just moments before the currier was due to arrive. They kindly put it on my stoop which was fine because I live in the country. And they even took a picture of it laying on the stoop and sent it to my computer so I would know it was delivered. That's a great thing. I love the Leuchtturm1917 notebooks. I use them a journals. This one is kind of a berry color, just lovely. The paper is very pleasant to write on with fountain pens. In my experience the Leuchtturm 1917s are sturdy and hold up all the way through many months of use. I keep a piece of blotting paper in the envelope thingy in the back of the notebook. Its elastic keeper band is sturdy and I like the two ribbon bookmarks, one for where I left off in the book and another I use to mark a page where I test a fountain pen if it needs a little nib polishing. One of my favorite things is the cream color of the paper which is not only attractive but cuts glare as well. Some feel that the cream paper affects the color of their ink but that isn't an issue for me. It's hard cover is nicely made with the Leuchtturm embossed in small print on the outside of the back cover. It has index pages at the beginning which I use for brief notes on important things I want to see at a glance. There's no bleed through with most inks and only a little ghosting which doesn't bother me when I move to the back of the page. This notebook is quality, usefulness and attractiveness at a reasonable price, especially if you get it from Amazon.

Best 80 gsm hard cover notebook for fountain pen -- and I have tried pretty much all the known brands. No feathering / leaking, just a bit of ghosting (its 80 gsm!), reasonable dry time, sturdy cover. Poor choice in my part of yellow color, a bit ratty towards the end (1 year) from traveling in my backpack.

I love these notebooks. I have the navy and the orange and the colors on them look fantastic and not cheap. The notebooks are a little pricey but that is due to their quality. I enjoy the numbered pages and the adhesive labels that come with each one. I am a convert to these from the other major notebook maker. Cannot recommend them highly enough if you enjoy physically taking notes!

Excellent quality and well made. Many beautiful colors to choose from. I’ve the index page and numbered pages. Pen does not bleed through. A5 is the best size, it’s easy to carry with you and still spacious. I’ve been using for years and still recommend!

I have three notebooks similar to this. I have used Moleskin notebooks for years without realizing how inconsistent their paper is. I recently began using a fountain pen, and the ink bleeds through paper on the Moleskine so bad that I had to write on every other page to be readable. A comparable Moleskine is a little cheaper than the Leuchtturm 1917. I bought a similar-looking Rhodia Webnotebook last spring when I bought a fountain pen. Of the three, the Rhodia is the best. The paper is excellent and the cover is much nicer than either of the other two. it has a padded feel and it overhangs the pages a little. It is also the most expensive. I like this notebook. It is a nice mix of price and features. The paper isn't the same quality as the Rhodia, however, it does not bleed and is better than the Moleskine. It is not too thick, so the ink shows through faintly from the other side, but enough to prevent using both sides of the paper. The binding is more like a Moleskine, and it stops right at the edge of the page. The 1917 also devotes the first three pages to a blank table of contents to make it easy to find important pages. The pages have a discreet page number and the last few pages are perforated to make it easy to tear out a page. And, of course there is a small pocket in the back, and a ribbon marker. I like the dots format, a lot. They are prominent enough to be seen, but not prominent enough to intrude. I can use them as guideline for writing. I can ignore them and sketch or draw. I can use them as graph paper. So, I have a journal that's neat and orderly, yet from a few feet away, it looks like the pages were blank before I wrote on them. I use it at work, in an office setting, as a "work journal." Nearly everything goes in it. Meeting notes, of course; thoughts jotted down on the fly; calculations, etc. I would definitely buy this again. EDIT: The only reason I gave it 4 and not 5 stars is that I think the Rhodia is a better quality notebook. If I were to give them both 5 stars,it would be misleading.

Review of: "1917 Medium Size Hardcover Ruled Notebook, Black," by Leuchtturm. I purchased this notebook as an alternative to Moleskine which I had been using exclusively for about seventeen years now. I am very happy with my acquisition as I feel that it is an improvement to Moleskine as both are the same price. The manufacturer specifications list: "Numbered pages and blank table of contents for easy organization and notes. Thread-bound opens flat. Acid-free and ink proof paper, expandable pocket inside back cover, page marker and elastic closure. Stickers for labeling and archiving. 249 numbered pages, 8 perforated pages, 5.75 x 8.25 inches." I enjoyed the fact that the pages seem just a little thicker than what Moleskine uses. I love the numbered pages and the fill-in table of contents in addition to the date and subject line at the top of each page. The book is similar to Moleskine in that it has a back pocket along with very useful organization stickers to include front cover and spine stickers in order to label and archive. The book comes with two ribbons to organize an important area in the book along with the current page (or whatever is deemed important to the journalist). Like the Moleskines this book has an elastic band to hold the book closed. I use gel and other non-traditional ink pens which do show through to some degree from one side of the paper to the other. The pages feel like they are a higher quality though. By the way there are eight (8) perforated pages from pages 241-249 which can be removed quite easily for any reason. The fact that there is some bleed through in the pages is similar to the Moleskine products and should not be a deal breaker here. This book has a sturdy cover and the book lays quite flat for immediate use. The spine and binding appear to be very well constructed and sturdy. I have found my need for sturdiness to be quite high as by the end of the use the notebook is filled with clippings, papers, etc. in addition to being written in. I guess it serves as a scrapbook as well for the months in use. Having it hold together is a major selling point to me. In the final analysis I am giving the edge here to the Leuchtturm for its more solid and robust feel in addition to the details listed above such as numbered pages, etc. which set it apart from Moleskine. I will be using this journal again. I really like it at five stars.

This is my 12th Leuchtturm journal. I haven't found one out there yet that meets my needs better and I've tried MANY. 37 others to be exact. This is still the winner. The true A5 size fits perfectly in all my bags and is comfortable to write on anywhere. I have used these daily for 6 years for Bullet Journaling and long form journaling. Durable all around. Perfect balance of smoothness and tooth to the pages. The lines go fully to each edge of the pages. The dot grid fills the width of the page with margins at the top and bottom. (Never used a blank or square.) I only use a ballpoint pen, so I'm won't share on ink show-through. The cataloguing stickers are a wonderful touch. I use a spine sticker when I'm finished to clearly label the dates for storage. Favorite features: prenumbered pages and premade index. I use the index regularly. (Why are all journals NOT prenumbered?!) My only complaint to the company is the colors. I don't like most of them. They're too primary or saturated. Having said that, my current, "Rising Sun" is so cheerful and I love it! Pacific is GORGEOUS. Navy is classy. Nordic blue is very pretty, but shows all the dirt. Light pink also, cute, but so dirty so fast. The fuchsia/raspberry is a nice color, but a little too saturated for me. Army is prettier and more "fall" in person than the pictures. The metallic bronze is one of my favorites! The denim blue is nice but kinda boring. Bellini is my all time favorite even if it's a tidge bright!

For anyone who loves to scribble things down like I do, this notebook is a dream. The paper and overall build quality feel genuinely premium, and you can tell it’s made to last. More expensive than a standard notebook, but the quality more than justifies the price. If you enjoy writing and appreciate a well-made notebook, it’s absolutely worth it.

Would highly recommend for bullet journaling as you can design your own spread and change it however you like! I’m onto my second book and have never been able to consistently journal until now.
