I imagine it would work just as well for a 22 cal, 9mm. Pistol or carbine, there are rubber feet screwed in the foot bottoms that can be removed and replaced with spike anchors if you want extreme non slip for larger caliber weapons- firearms. If you,like me, are only using it for air guns than it beats a bag rest by a mile. It is easily positionable and we'll thought out. For the price and what I am using it for it gets 5 stars. Of course the disadvantage of this rest, is that it has to be used on a flat level surface, for which a shooting bag rest would be more suitable. Can you use the laser or does the front of the rest Interfere with the laser?** A: I haven't decided to purchase yet, but I had the same question and I'm speculating about drilling a 1/4" to 1/2" hole right where the grip laser can pass thru the front rest. Probably void out any warranty, but for the price it's probably worth a try. **Q: Do you use this with Black powder revolvers with3” and 8" barrels ?** A: No, I used it with a Colt SAA that has a 5 1/2” barrel. To me it felt too flimsy and the base where you would rest the bottom of the grip was too small and too rigid. The front barrel rest screw height adjustment was way too coarse and imprecise. I added weight to the flimsy base but still wasn’t happy with it. Regular sandbag rests did just as good or better. I switched to a small tabletop shooter’s tripod with a narrow “V” cushioned barrel rest and added a squeezable bag for the base of the pistol grip and was happy with that setup. **Q: how sturdy is this for sighting in sights on something like a Glock 19?** A: I use it on a 44 magnum for sighting in and it works if you weight it down with a sand bag between the rear rest and the front barrel rest. You can also make a thin sandbag the length and depth of the underside and fasten that for weight. **Q: Will this rest work for smaller gun than a 1911, such as a s&w mp 22?** A: I think it'll work with any gun. Just rest the butt of your pistol on the rear rest and the barrel on the height-adjustable front rest. If your handgun is too small, then rest your forearm on the rear rest. More things sold here will be made there just like more things from here will be sold there. Asian quality can be sketchy but remember early Japanese cars and how they are now; just inspect stuff and buy where you can send it back for free, like Amazon Prime. And yes it is thin plastic; I wouldn't say flimsy but definitely lightweight. The advantage to this is that it comes apart and fits into my range bag, sets up instantly and doesn't weigh me down. It is also less than $20! So after three range trips shooting CZ 75BD; Colt 1911 and Beretta 92FS (.45 and 9mm) I think it gets the job done. It settles a little through the middle when you first rest your gun and arms on it but it sinks down about the same each time and then stays there. A piece of wood across midships would stiffen it but it actually works fine as is. The height adjustment is precise and stays where you set it and the hand rest adjusts fore and aft enough to fit most barrel lengths. The cradle seems fine, just be careful to keep the muzzle ahead of the cushion so it doesn't get blasted (or the forcing cone on a revolver for the same reason.) Once set up, I could remount the pistols after each shot and have the same sight picture. The gun jumps from recoil (as with any rest) but the rest itself doesn't change settings. I'm not sure this is the tool for 454 Casull or S&W 500 mag; but it works for most pistol calibers. I think light rifles would be OK too but I haven't tried that yet.
