I am decorating a nursery for my son that is nautical themed. I purchased these even though many reviews complain about the smell. I figured I could do something to make them smell better if needed. Yes, they did smell. My dog was really interested in them. Ha! I set them out in the sun for a day or so and then did two coats of a clear spray paint. They basically smell like nothing now and I have no problem using them in the nursery.I was also able to drill a hole though them so I could string them on a garland. I was worried they would be too fragile, but they were sturdy and none of them cracked.The size was close to what I expected to get as well. There are a variety of sizes. I got two decently large ones and the rest were a bit smaller but still a good size for my project.I hope this helps someone decide to make a purchase! They are pretty!

These Starfish were nice and big! I didn't actually measure but they are definitely close to 8" which is what I was hoping for. I am using these as part of the centerpiece for my wedding, which takes place on a beach. So my colors are red white and gold. What I did after I fought the starfish is I went and got some rustoleum metallic gold spray paint just to see what would happen. and WOW!!!!!! the result was gorgeous. the spray paint ensured all of the detail still showed through and it actually changed the intense gold color to a soft gold because the starfish are so porous. And guess what? no foul smell! the spay paint either gets rid of the smell or locks it in. Id imagine you could do this with a white or ivory spray paint and no one would be the wiser. It would look like a starfish without the smell if you're using them for decorations. good luck!

I purchased these for an event to use for table decoration. They are nice starfish! Good amount for the value. I must say they came with no packing to protect what you would think would be fragile and not one was chipped or broken. I recommend you remove them from the package and set out before your event to rid the smell. It's a smell that seems to come from processing and is not associated with the ocean.

These looked great for decorating. We painted a few and everyone liked them. Great size.

I bought these for my daughter's under the sea birthday party and they arrived just in time. As some other reviewers noted, they did smell when you first take them out of the bag. I laid them outside overnight, then sprayed them with Febreeze the next day and the smell was gone. They were bigger than I expected which was a great thing because they looked so good on the backdrop. All 10 were intact even though they were packed in a large box with no cushioning.

These are absolutely beautiful! I used them to make starfish wands for my granddaughters mermaid birthday party. Great quality and I appreciate the affordable price! Yes they have a slight fish smell to them when you open them, but uhmm... they are fish! Put them in the sun for a day and then smell is gone and you have stunning starfish!

The starfish are exactly what I was looking for color and size wise. However, they smell horrible. I was hoping to make a wreath out of them but will most likely be returning them due to smell.

I needed to replace several starfish that got broken, and was excited to see these as they were all quite beautiful. I quickly unpacked them and picked up a few to place them, and was immediately bowled over by the fume-y stench. (I live by the ocean and it was not a natural smell.) I tried airing them out for a few hours and also tried washing them in plain tap water but there was no change. Ultimately I threw them all away.
